Wow, what a great fun day today for Wild West Series Rd.1. We were blessed with amazing conditions after beautiful overnight rain made the track firm and grippy, and 100+ people got to enjoy it. We love sharing our piece of the bush for others to enjoy, and it was great to catch up with so many long-term members of the SEQ MTB community after a couple of years gap.
Happy 15th Birthday to the Wild West Series, which began as a club series between Adare and Walloon.
This year also marks 20 years since Adare hosted its first XC event - a round of the Sunshine Series under the auspices of TRC
A lot of sweat has fallen into the soil here since then.
Three months ago we began the optimistic task of reclaiming the track after a couple of years of letting it slip back into the wilderness, so a huge thanks to the machete hit squad, Aaron Martin, Mitch Pinnell, Dan O'Brien and Liam Dipple, and Stephen Pozzebon for adding finishing touches with the blower yesterday, plus a big thanks to Nathan Cowell for Traffic-Copping the busy top intersection all morning. Thanks too to Lindsey Perry and Mere Bognar for parking the cars for us.
I get by with a little help from my friends.

Gates at the end of Adare road are both are both now open and marked. If you're not a frequent dirt road driver, the first wet weather rule is, drive around the puddles please. Driving through them pumps out the mud at the bottom and makes them deeper.

Well we got a very nice wetting last night, raining as late as 3.30 this morning. If we get no more now, this will be what I think of as the perfect prep.

Pretty excited to catch up with old friends and new tomorrow. Also thrilled to be currently listening to some gentle rain falling, which will be perfect to settle the dust and make the track firmer and grippier for tomorrow. We'd be happy to take lots more - less keen for heavy winds that might drop sticks or anything heavier, but we'll see how we go.
Digging the signage out from the depths of the garage, we couldn't resist putting this gnarled old relic from the first Adare race back in 2005, back in to bat for one more innings.
Feeling a bit the same at the the end of our most challenging track prep ever, but I know this much, I've been very fortunate for the support of Aaron Martin, Dan O'Brien, Liam Dipple, Mitch Pinnell, Steve Pozzebon and Nathan Cowell.

Hello mountain bike lovers, it's been a few years since Adare has been on the WWS calendar, so with rain on the forecast, it might be time for a quick reminder of a couple of points.
Adare is a sand-based track, and probably the most weather-proof track in SEQ. We ran a Queensland championship here in maybe 2011 after four consecutive days of rain, and got complemented by one of the top A grade women that she'd never experienced Adare so running so fast and grippy.
In short, race-week rain has been a preference for 20 years. Because...
