I’ve been asked a lot lately…
Why do you love trekking at altitude?
Apart from the incredible scenery and moments that no photo or words could ever do justice to, part of the answer is simple — I love the challenge.
Social media photos can make it all look pretty glamorous, but the reality is, there are moments that are hard AF.
I love the challenge of something that pushes me physically and mentally. Something that asks a little more of me and reminds me what I’m capable of.
There are moments when I just want it to end, moments when I question why I’m doing it, but there’s something pretty incredible about not giving up and discovering what you’re capable of when things get really hard.
The other reason I love it, is because at altitude, everything gets stripped back.
There’s no room for the endless chitter chatter in my head. No thinking about what happened yesterday or what needs to happen tomorrow.
As the air gets thinner and the challenge becomes harder, my world becomes very, very simple.
Two points of focus.
My next step.
My next breath.
Step.
Breathe.
Step.
Breathe.
I become completely present in my body and completely present in the moment.
I collect moments instead of things.
I don’t need much to feel like I have everything.
Life gets quiet up there.
For a little while, nothing else matters.
Maybe it feels familiar to me because it’s the same presence I find in movement and meditation ~ my practice is hard some days but I keep coming back to my body, coming back to my breath, coming back to right now.
There’s something incredibly peaceful about finding stillness in the middle of something so challenging. This is where you truely find yourself! Xox ⛰️❤️
