We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Yamashiro Sensei and the members of IOGKF Okinawa and Japan for welcoming the members of IOGKF Australia to the Yamashiro Dojo 25th Anniversary Gasshuku.

It was a true honour to train alongside our extended karate family in such a meaningful celebration. The warmth of their hospitality and the generosity of spirit have left a deep and lasting impression on all of us.

We sincerely hope that the bridge of friendship between Australia and Okinawa continues to grow ever stronger through mutual respect, shared training, and the bonds we’ve forged together.

Members of IOGKF Australia were deeply honoured to travel to Okinawa for a special Friendship Gasshuku under the guidance of Yamashiro Sensei.

Training together in the birthplace of Goju-Ryu Karate-Do was a powerful reminder of the depth, spirit, and humility that define traditional karate. It was more than just physical practice — it was an opportunity to reconnect with the roots of our art, strengthen friendships, and reflect on what it truly means to train with sincerity.

While we recognise there is still so much to learn, we return home with grateful hearts and renewed determination. We are thankful for every lesson shared, every correction given, and every moment with Yamashiro Sensei.

With this experience in mind, we will continue our daily training with dedication and strive to practise “correct training” with discipline, respect, and wholehearted effort.

Training has resumed for 2026 at IOGKF Newcastle (senior classes)… it’s great to have Brent Sensei back after he spent a few months training in Okinawa under Yamashiro Sensei. Time to dust of the cobwebs & get back into it…

Huge congrats to Kym (Newcastle Dojo) for gaining his Shodan and Aaron (Sydney Dojo) on his Nidan at the recent IOGKF Australia Gasshuku… their journey now continues as they learn & refine the art of tradition karate.
