Harbord FC has been incredibly fortunate to receive the support of Chris Semaan, Community Football Manager at Manly Warringah Football Association, who has spent the past few weeks working alongside some of our Under 6 and Under 7 MiniRoos coaches.
For many volunteer parent coaches, this is their first experience coaching football. Some have played the game before, while others are completely new to it. Regardless of their background, leading a group of enthusiastic 5 and 6-year-olds each week comes with its own unique challenges. Chris has helped build confidence by sharing practical coaching tips, session ideas and simple strategies to keep training fun, engaging and well organised.
What impressed our coaches most was Chris's ability to understand how young children think and learn. His experience and insight helped coaches recognise when players were ready for a new challenge, when energy levels were dropping, and how to adjust activities to keep everyone focused, involved and enjoying their football.
One coach summed it up perfectly:
"It was incredible! We learnt so much. Chris is amazing at reading the kids. He can tell when they've had enough of one activity and gives us the confidence to move things along before they become distracted. We picked up some fantastic drills that the kids loved and can immediately use in our own training sessions."
The support has been invaluable in helping our coaches build confidence and feel better prepared to lead their teams each week. While many may not yet be ready to dive into formal coaching courses, Chris's hands-on mentoring has provided practical tools and strategies they can use straight away.
A huge thank you to Chris Semaan and the MWFA for investing in such a fantastic Community Football Manager and for the support Chris has provided to our volunteer coaches, helping create a positive football experience for our youngest players.
