Enterprise Sailing Team

Enterprise Sailing Team Enterprise is a racing yacht and this page is dedicated to the pictures and stories of the crew when competing offshore

Notice of Race is posted for 25/26 offshore and includes the useful addition to the Cat3+ list of a "BAROMETER". Probable a little light to be useful as movable ballast though will add to the decor of the cabin. Could add a sextant to the decor as well and enhance the nautical theme of the main saloon.

Very light conditions in the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club Ocean Racing WA Roland Smith Race!
Another beautiful day for boating in the Roland Smith, though a little challenging for sailors around midday with wind supply a little lacking.
This was a very tactical race for team Enterprise with the single mission being to finish in front of Crush on IRC to consolidate Siska points. The aim was to stay in the same water all day with Crush to minimise any potential benefit from wind shifts from one side of the course to the other and we executed to this plan all day.
Stanton and the predicted transition from North to West presented an opportunity and after having drifted past the mark the super One Sails wind seeker came out and we sailed directly at Crush, who were becalmed, at a blistering 0.8 knots.
With the wind then slowing transitioning from North through to the West we effectively positioned ourselves between Crush and the rest of the fleet in a very solid second last position on every category. So whilst Will has the thumbs up in the photo because there is a boat behind us, a forward view would show the whole rest of the fleet in front of us at this point (perspective is everything).
Wyuna had meanwhile shown all the Division 1 boats how to manage the light conditions and rounded Stanton and set off to Campbell in first position overall.
With a strong north to south current, the washing machine from Rotto traffic and a zephyr breeze vaguely from the West we spent the next hour holding our advantage of being second last before finally the south westerly pushed through at a blistering 5 to 6 knots, which allowed the restart of the race.

Three hours into the race and we eventually rounded Campbell six minutes behind Crush and in front of Weapon.
With the wind shift turing the race into largely a reaching event from then on with no opportunity for passing lanes, the focus for the rest of the race became boat handling and sail selection to ensure we maintained Crush on a bungie and inside the IRC corrected time. The crew work was its typical top shelf and executed to the finishing assuring us of the result we need for the day.

Obsession continued to show their skills in the light weather conditions taking first in Division 1 IRC, with the benefits of the reaching legs assisting Enterprise up into second, a testament to the crew and Paul's tactics given the restart at Stanton.

Shout out to Dave Kenny in the Edge who took the overall result for the day, great effort for a double hander. AK

Another beautiful day out on the water Saturday in the RPYC Island Race. The wind was a little lacking early in the day though from around 1100 settled in at around 10 knots which was plenty to get us around the Island.
Plenty of variability in direction kept the crew busy with the foredeck doing around twenty sail changes for the day including 10 minute sprints with the Spinnaker Stay sail and GS which at times could be mistaken for a Yo Yo. Flawless ex*****on from the whole team combined with great sail selection made the difference at a number of crucial points of the day.
It was great to have Weapon back out on the water and we had a great tussle with them all day. Whilst they had the jump on us early and rounded Kingston the first time with a handy lead, some rock hopping off Dyer Island allowed us to close up the gap and slip through in front before Parker Point.
I did have a moment off Dyer Island when Paul asked me whether the draft was exactly three meters or a little bit over, certainly made me focus on holding the exact heading he was calling.
With Weapon on our hip for the next three hours there was no room for error from Parker Point to the finish, credit to the whole crew and great Tactical direction from Paul we held them at bay for the rest of the day. Shout out to Raff and Shane who stepped on for the day and stepped up to assist with the result for the day.
Whilst it is fun to have Enterprise on the plane in 20 knots of breeze it is also immensely satisfying to sail in a challenging breeze like yesterday especially with the great group we have on board that can execute pretty much any manoeuvre Paul can dream up. Was an absolute cracker of a day from my perspective.

Congratulations to Obsession who took out both IRC & PHS in Division One and overall, clearly had a great day on the water as well and clearly did a great job of handling the transitions out around Kingston.

Salacia took the chocolates in Div 2 IRC with a strong performance from Dave Kenny on Edge to take second and also win PHS for Div 2.

On the overall IRC results a second for Enterprise was a great result for the day with Weapon 3rd and Salacia sneaking into 4th to round out the results.
