Why does this work?
🪢 Performance: Velox Plus is a relatively hard antifoul, so it can be finished to 600 grit
🪢 Weight: zinc not copper based so it's considerably lighter. On a 52ft boat the difference should be 10-15kg+
🪢 Maintenance: again because it's relatively hard, it can be cleaned by diving with a performance wet and dry (1,200 grit) without seeing the sort of plumes one sees when cleaning an ablative, and this also makes it more durable than alternatives

"In these images you'll see props with a silicon foul-release, the hangers and shafts with Velox Plus. That's four months post-application, January 2018. And that's white worm on the silicon coated blades. Since then, I have fully treated all metals with Velox Plus and haven't had any issues."

"Each year at haulout I clean up with 60 grit, touch up with Marlin's metal primer as needed and then apply three thick coats of Velox Plus. I do the application myself, it's straightforward and requires little technical skills."

{HINT} the answer is to protect/mitigate with Velox Plus

🔎 Tell-tale signs
📸 attached photos are at haul-out just a few weeks after anti-fouling ... the owner has since redressed with the assistance of a marine electrician 🙌
🔌 Fast-growing and/or oversized large barnacles. Any hull anti-foul (with cuprous oxide) painted onto metal (typically on stock or plates attached to the hull) with an electrical charge running through it will create gases that variously excites and/or force-feeds barnacles. At the same time, hull anti-foul on GRP/non-metal surface will appear relatively clean.
🔌 Silicon foul-release or Velox Plus is blasted off the metal surface (typically you don't notice it so much with PropSpeed, because of the closeness in colour).
🔌 Exposed metal is brightened, i.e. no sign of oxidization or dulling, due to charge keeping oxidization at bay.

📰 The Good News
📌 Velox Plus will continue to be effective due to the surrounding biocide
📌 Any barnacles being produced can be scrubbed off due to the durable nature of Velos Plus, without needing specialised equipment

💡 The Fix
🔧 Talk to a marine electrician to remediate the discharge
🔧 Remove any hull anti-foul covering your underwater metals, and
🔧 Consistently coat ALL underwater metals with Velox Plus.
🔧 Noting Marlin Paint's Metal Primer has been improved recently for even greater protection from galvanic currents

"I used Velox Plus in 2022 on my power boat at Fremantle sailing club. I did not use the boat as much as I should for the next 2 years. When taken out of the water in early 2024 I found the underwater metal areas were remarkably free of barnacles and w**d. I also used Velox on the through hull fittings and these were also clear of growth. I thoroughly recommend Velox to all boat users. It is also cheaper and easier to apply than Propspeed or other similar products I have used."
