What if your pain isn’t the enemy, but a protector? In Internal Family Systems, pain often sits in front of parts, the frightened part, the driven part, the inner critic, the part that quietly keeps us from being looked after.
In IFS research with rheumatoid arthritis, many people carried “caretaking parts” that had never learned to care for themselves and when they finally increased their own self-care, their symptoms eased.
The invitation isn’t to fight the pain, but to get curious about what it’s protecting. Curiosity, not force, is where healing begins. Working gently with these protectors is part of my Yoga Psychology & the Neuroscience of Pain training - 20 hours, live online; details in bio.
