I feel for this young man who seems to have had serious mental health issues. However, from a self-defence or policing perspective, it is unreasonable to expect a taser, pepper spray or a baton to be used against a knife. I have to agree with the Police Commissioner on this one.

The 24-year-old’s brother is demanding answers from police as to why they chose to use a gun instead of a Taser.

I hope this woman recovers well and soon. There is an important self-defence lesson here. The employee did not know she'd been stabbed. She thought she had been hit by a trolley (shopping cart). That's a very common experience with stabbing injuries. Being stabbed is an unfamiliar feeling for most of us, so it's easy to confuse a stabbing injury with a punch, a hit or another sort of injury.

The victim, who was working alone in one of the supermarket’s aisles, didn’t realise she had been stabbed initially, instead thinking she had been hit by a trolley.
