Most leaders and changemakers spend years trying to fix themselves.

Trying to become more confident, successful, disciplined and resilient. Yet some of the biggest breakthroughs happen when you stop asking:

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” - Will Durant.

Most people wait for motivation before they take action. They wait until they feel confident, ready, or inspired. Some wait until they have more knowledge or information.

However, excellence doesn’t work that way.

The quality of your life, relationships, health, career and results is rarely determined by what you do once.

It’s determined by what you do repeatedly.

The thoughts you repeatedly think. The standards you repeatedly accept. The conversations you repeatedly avoid. The promises you repeatedly keep… or break.

Success isn’t usually built in a single breakthrough moment. It’s built in the small actions that nobody applauds.

One of the most expensive beliefs a person can carry is this:

“I’ll finally feel confident when I know enough.”

So they keep learning. Reading another book, listening to another podcast, taking another course and waiting until they feel ready. They’ll spend thousands on different things and still find themselves feeling stuck with self doubt, in the same place 6 months later.

However, we know confidence rarely comes from knowing. It comes from doing.

Most people aren’t lacking information. Especially now with incredible technological advancements across the last few decades, we have the internet, a full spectrum of various content available 24/7, AI and so on.

So information isn’t a problem, it’s the beliefs under the surface. People are carrying subconscious beliefs that make action feel uncomfortable.

The belief that they might fail, be judged or outcast. The belief that they need to get it perfect or that they need permission.

So they stay in preparation mode… which feels productive but it’s like being busy by being busy.

The people you admire aren’t necessarily the most intelligent, qualified or talented in the world. They’re usually the people who learned how to move before they felt ready.

🌟 Who were willing to be seen before they felt confident
🌟 Who stopped waiting for certainty and started building evidence
🌟 Who stopped waiting for the “perfect time” and made now the perfect time to act

Without a care in the world. No responsibilities weighing you down. No time pressures, meetings or deadlines.

Just deeply present and relaxed. A pure state of peace, where your mind, body and nervous system can finally rest and repair. Or “bliss”, as our client T.R calls it.

You notice your stress levels decreasing with each breath out. The tension leaving your muscles and shoulders with each gentle rise and fall of your chest.

Meanwhile, your growth often happens in the moments you choose to trust yourself anyway. This also builds confidence and momentum.

It’s not because you feel fearless or everything feels easy. It’s because you decide your future matters more than your fear.

Powerful leadership isn’t always the loudest voice in the room.

Sometimes it’s the person quietly doing the inner work and regulating their nervous system, instead of reacting. Choosing growth instead of staying stuck in old patterns.

Leading yourself with integrity, self awareness and intention. Developing emotional intelligence and supporting your own wellbeing, which helps you better show up for others.

The way you move through the world impacts people more than you realise.

That smile you gave the new employee helped them feel more welcomed. You chose to smile, even though your mind was elsewhere on deadlines.

Remembering that small detail a colleague told you about their life helped them feel seen and heard. You chose to check in with them, even though internally you have your own pressures building.

Being kind to others comes easy to you. It’s partly why you’re a difference-maker and great at what you do.

You’re an inspirational leader who gets things done. You’re reliable, trustworthy and hold high standards of integrity.

You’re naturally compassionate, empathetic and supportive. Your colleagues, family and friends know you’re the person they can come to. Whether it’s to help solve a problem, be a listening ear or simply to talk through work ideas.

Although it’s easy to prioritise everyone else, you are equally deserving of kindness, compassion and support. You put so much energy into your work and others, perhaps it’s time to find a healthier balance and put some of that energy into yourself too?

Your brain doesn’t fully know the difference between what’s real and what’s imagined.

That’s why dreams can feel so impactful. It’s also why visualisations are incredibly powerful when they’re used intentionally.

Self-leadership tip of the week:
🧠 Take a few slow, deep breaths to ground yourself
🧠 Spend 3-5 minutes visualising your future self, as if you’re living your future desired life now
🧠 Use full sensory detail: what you can see, hear, feel, smell, taste, touch, know
🧠 Imagine the actions, habits and behaviours your desired future self does
🧠 Repeat daily, especially in the mornings and before falling asleep

🧠 Bonus tip: increase the time spent visualising and add feeling grateful for this incredible life you have created, as if you’re already living it now

If you’re stressed in your current life, you might want your future self to feel calm, grounded and balanced. If you have overwhelm now, your future self might tackle tasks one at a time with ease and confidence.

Consider these for your desired future self:
🌟 What do you believe?
🌟 How do you speak to yourself?
🌟 How do you walk into a room?
🌟 How do you respond under pressure?
🌟 How do you lead yourself and others?

Every time you mentally rehearse a new way of being, your brain starts strengthening those neural pathways. Neuroscience calls this neuroplasticity, NLP calls it mental rehearsal and future pacing. We also use it in Clinical Hypnotherapy.

Elite athletes, performers and high achievers have used visualisation for decades because the brain activates many of the same neural networks whether you physically practise something or vividly imagine it. If you’ve seen videos of pilots “chair flying”, you’ll already know this.

Your nervous system and subconscious are always listening to the images, emotions and language you repeatedly expose yourself to. Train them to start living as your desired future self and watch your life shift.
