I will be running a Virtual Reset & Align Pilates Retreat.

Hi, my name is Marisa and I run a small Pilates Studio in Franklin, Tasmania. In the coming weeks I will offer a Virtual Retreat. A great opportunity to ease back into movement, taking time to destress find balance from within. You will feel the work in your body but without the overwhelm of forcing through tension. This retreat is an excellent place to start a new movement routine and set the tone for this new Year.

When and where?
The Retreat runs over the course of three weeks, from Tuesday 13 January to 31st January, with three (3) live online sessions (via zoom) and additional exercise videos available on demand online. You will get access to an online platform to view these videos in your own time. So, if you can’t make the live session you will still be able to exercise.

What to Expect Each Week:
· One (1) short, gentle morning routine to ease into the day (on demand)
· One (1) mindful, 30 min full-body Pilates flow class (live online + recording)
· One (1) evening stretch and unwind session (on demand)
· 1 bonus practice videos linking breath with movement (on demand)
· 1 bonus video tutorials on the principles healthy movement, alignment and breathing (on demand)

All sessions are designed to ease tension, reconnect with your body, find alignment and grounding to support your nervous system.

All sessions are Beginner friendly as they are focused on breathing, control and slow movement.

Note: This retreat is not suited for you if you are currently experiencing strong acute pain, recovering from a recent injury or have significant movement impairment.

Hi, my name is Marisa. I am a Pilates and Movement teacher and run a Boutique Pilates Studio in Franklin. I am 48 years young now (not sure how this happened so quickly) and I am feeling the changes. Things are getting a bit harder, joints ache more often, sleep is difficult, stress levels are higher and energy lower.

So many changes are starting to happen in this phase of our lives, and it can feel overwhelming. But here is the thing, waiting until it’s over and we feel young again is not going to work because, well, Peri-Menopause and all that it brings.

Instead, I’d like to see this time an opportunity to review our priorities and take better care of ourselves. Along with a healthy diet and regulating hormones, exercise is one of the important pillars that can set us up for a better, healthy future. The right mix of exercise helps to maintain healthy bones, improving balance, mobility and general strength. We need all of these to stay resilient, independent and capable well into our retirement years.

I am passionate about this topic as it is very much my reality. I know that exercise is what helps me every single time even if I have to drag myself out of the house to do it. So, I am offering a few new classes for women between 40 and 60 years. These Classes are combining Pilates principles like Alignment, Breathing and Core Control with Balance training and Strength building. We will use resistance bands and hand weights for part of the classes.

These classes are great for you if you want to get back into exercises and the general gym is not your style. The groups will be very small (3 people) and exercises can be modified if you experience pain of discomfort. But I will also be teaching good form and alignment which often can help with mitigating pain. The classes are offered as a complete 10 week course only, 10 sessions over 10 weeks. When starting a new exercise regime, it is important to commit and have a regular practice to see positive change. Course Fee is $200.

Session times are:
Tuesday 5:40pm-6:30pm from 22 July – 23 September
Thursday 5:30pm-6:20pm from 24 July – 25 September
Saturday 10:45am-11:35am from 26 July – 27 September
Note: Sessions will only go ahead if they can be filled with 3 participants.

I don’t really do new year resolutions, but over the holidays I usually take some time thinking about the things I’d like to spend more time doing. On our little trip away, we’ve done some hiking and scrambling up rock cliffs and I got reminded of the time I went out climbing and bouldering. It’s funny how life takes over and before you know it you stopped doing the things you love. I stopped because of weird back pain and neurological symptoms with no explanation. This is how I got to practice Pilates, to help with the symptoms and regain control and confidence, alignment and strength. That was nearly 10 years ago!!!! Then we moved, I changed my job and became a Pilates Teacher, opened my own studio, living off-grid in a school bus, growing my own food and now building our house on the land we call home. A full transformation!

So, on this little vacation we reconnected with two things: climbing/bouldering and surfing. It was physically exhausting but mentally very rewarding. I finally feel I’ve got the capacity to do these things again. Maybe not at the level I used to, but hey, it’s been a while…

Without Pilates and a consistent movement practice, I don’t think I’d be here today. I’m not without pain or weird sensations, but I’m managing way better because I am more in tune with my body. Bring it on 2025 and beyond, let’s spend a little bit more time with the fun things again. Pilates for me is now also a great way to cross train and prepare for returning to more surfing and climbing. A perfect way to exercise and adapt so that I can do the things I want and also the things I need to do for longer and with less pain.

So, if there is something in your life you stopped doing because of pain, maybe try Pilates or another body-mind movement method. You may be surprised 😉

Pilates is great for everyone, in particular it helps with improving posture, reducing stress, improving balance, countering the effects of a sedentary lifestyle and most importantly it’s a great practice to keep you fit and well throughout life so you can keep doing the things you love in life.

I have only limited spot left. The Beginner to intermediate classes require previous Mat Pilates experience. New to Pilates, the Foundations Course is your option. You don’t have to do complicated exercises to get a good Pilates workout. Actually, often I find it’s those basic exercises that are the hardest. Doing them well, with control and purpose is the key. Taking the opportunity to connect with your own body and challenge your current movement abilities doesn’t need much. These two exercises are great for everyone and particularly good if you are sitting a lot. If you struggle to find the positions find a good teacher who can help you exercise with purpose and for effect.
