Sled Dog Shield ~ Kowen Forest 🌲🐾

Last weekend was the Shield weekend which has become one of the biggest races in the country!

As the race co-ordinator it’s always a busy, but rewarding weekend 🙂

This was Libby’s first ‘big race’ and she aced it. She handled the start chute very well and shows focus, and exceptional work ethic on the trail. Libby teamed up with Sage in the 2 Dog Open class, making a phenomenal little team 🌟

Clocking up an average speed of 27.85km/hr, which is extremely impressive for purebred Siberian Huskies, they came home with:

🥇Siberian Husky Team
6th Overall in a very competitive and fast class!

They well and truly exceeded my expectations, and I’m immensely proud of the girls efforts ✨

Unfortunately it was only a 1 heat race with Sunday being too warm to race which meant we cancelled heat 2 in the best interest of the dogs.

A massive thank you to Luke for being my dog handler, master chef, camp boss, and taking care of the dogs while I do my committee duties over the weekend. I honestly could not do it without you 🙏💛

It was great catching up with everyone, although briefly for the most part, and hosting another memorable race 🛷

The Siberian Husky Club of NSW Sled Sports Weekend 🌲🐾

Well, what a big weekend of achievements❗️

On Saturday and Sunday Sage and I hiked 16km each day for her to gain the last 2 qualifiers for her Working Pack Dog Title 🥾 ✨

Sage carried 30% of her body weight ❗️

The ANKC Race was held on Saturday night, and this was Libby’s first race. She was flawless and I couldn’t be more proud of her 🧡

Sage and Libby make an exceptional team, and both qualified gaining km’s towards their sled dog title. They also came 🥇in the 2 Dog Class.

A massive shout out to Luke who helps take care of the dogs, sets up, packs up, and does whatever needs doing for the committee and me. It wouldn’t be possible without you❗️

Thank you to our judges Aaron Coventry and Jordan Anderson. It was a great start to the season, and a fun weekend in the forest 🙂
