Read that again. Cos the LAST thing I want for you is to be underpaid AND over it on your next project you say yes to.

As creatives, as freelancers… we care.
Deeply. Often, a little too much.

We want to do a great job, not just a good one.
We want things to be a success, not just a check box.
We want to do our best work, it’s a matter of pride.

And we HATE when it feels like we care too much.

OF COURSE WE CARE! Thats why we love what we do.

But it’s so much worse when we realise we didn’t charge enough. And the kicker was that we probably were the one who set the price.

So before we hit send on the next quote or estimate, let’s charge enough so we can afford to care, yeah?

Claude’s. Chads. Coded bots. They aren’t creatives. They aren’t competition.

And dot get me wrong, I’ve swung both pro-AI and anti-AI.
I’ve had clients send me AI generated crap to fix.
Have had them put my work through AI and seen it destroyed.

But I’ve also used it myself to organise ideas, summarise meetings, contextualise parts I don’t understand when it’s easier to have it do the research.

I don’t think it’s bad or good.
I also don’t think it’s going to replace creatives. At least, not the ones that are more than just generators themselves.

When a client hires me, they hire me for my expertise. I don’t think anyone sees AI as an expert.

The same should be for you.
And when that’s true, when you aren’t comparable with what AI can do, they aren’t your competition.

Surely there’s some kinda connection here…

And don’t get me wrong, I’m in awe of mums I see and how incredible they are. My students, my sister, my friends who chose kids and love that feeling of being a mum.

No yucking your yum here. It just ain’t my flavour.

For a long time I used to shy away from the conversations where my disinterest was interpreted as naivety, where shame was felt, when people tried to change my mind. Now, I just think I know myself better.

But I do often wonder whether that plays a role for me in my love of staying solo. My complete and utter obsession for building something that has no dependents.

Do I coach gals and guys who are parents? Absolutely!
Do they need to want the same thing as me? Absolutely NOT!

Whether you want to stay solo as a freelancer or have dreams of building an agency or somewhere in between, I think defining the flavour of success for yourself is the literally first step.

Surely it can’t be just my feed is showing multiple workshops, downloads, trainings, promising to help you, a creative freelancer, get more clients.

And don’t get me wrong, of course we want more clients.
And those trainings might absolutely help you get more clients.

But correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t more clients also more work? Like if we got twice as many clients at the same prices we charged all year, then that’s also going to be twice as much work.

And couldn’t we, before we go and get all those clients using the things those other workshops and trainings teach, change the prices we charge so we can make twice as much money without having to work twice as hard?

I remember standing outside the studio I left back when I took the freelancing leap thinking “holy sh*t, how am I going to make this work? Have I just made the biggest mistake ever?”

lol nope. Not at all Baby Jaz

Cos not only have you done the BEST thing for your creative brain and future business, but you’ve also stepped on the pathway to something pretty cool.

Because I had to build my own freelancing business where
- my yearly salary is now a few months of freelancing
- my weekly routine is filled with enough clients and creative to challenge me but not burn me out
- my day often starts at 10am, working often in trackies and my commute most days is the stairs up to my home studio

I had to work out how to make it work for me, so I could then help you achieve it too (assuming that YOU are a creative freelancer or service provider like me), especially if you’re wanting to stay solo, sane and sleeping at night.

You only need to be a few steps in front to help someone along the path. So if you’re going my way, here’s my hand. Lemme help you out.

I don’t want more clients, I want more money 💸💸💸

It feels like every other post on this app is telling you that you need more clients, but lemme ask you 2 questions:

1. Do you want more clients, or do you want more money?

2. If you actually landed twice as many clients right now, do you even have the capacity to take them on?

So before we do all the workshops that show you how to get more clients or get fully booked out… let’s make it so that when they do, they’re paying more than who’s saying yes right now.

Let’s make sure that if you did end up with more clients, that you also become Cashed Up instead of burnt out in the process.

Selfish of me to get sick when I was rostered on really…

And do you think I spent that day resting?!
ABSOLUTELY NOT

I spiraled over what I needed to do to make it up to my boss next time. I freaked out that this meant I was likely going to be fired even though I had been a great worker. I spent so long worrying and probably making myself sicker.
