🦆 Field & Game Australia's stance on the 2024 duck season 🦆
FGA members, hunters, and outdoor lovers! Lucas Cooke here, CEO of Field & Game Australia. We've got an important update for you on the 2024 duck season and our dialogue with the Victorian Game Management Authority (GMA). 🌿
This year, the GMA isn't seeking formal submissions on the 2024 duck season, but is open to additional data. We've made sure to clearly state our position.
We are fighting tirelessly for a future where game bird seasons in Victoria are governed by solid science, not political agendas or arbitrary decisions. These are our key points:
⚠ Advocacy for scientific models: The future must contain science-based season setting – without subjective meddling. While the current Interim Harvest Model is far from perfect, FGA is advocating for fair, data-driven season regulations.
⚠ Opposition to political interference: We are insisting on decisions based purely on science.
⚠ Timely season announcements: We are pushing for well-timed communication for our community.
⚠ Sustainable hunting practices: FGA supports the balanced approach of the Prowse report.
⚠ Enhanced stakeholder engagement: We are advocating for transparency in who has a say in the decision-making.
⚠ Reducing waterfowl wounding: We are committed to ethical hunting and animal welfare.
⚠ Review the 8am start time & Wednesday season opening: We are challenging the necessity for these, and seeking GMA's trial findings.
⚠ Hardhead ducks & the quail season: We are calling for a re-evaluation of Hardhead ducks and assurance on the quail season.
