Falcons vs Morphettville Park Gold

Overview: Sprinklers bog down the scoring
This week we were planning to rest Brodie and Eddie S, however with Riley reporting in unwell
and Brodie already at the ground to support the team, we kept our full numbers by slotting
Brodie in.
The agony of choice at the bat-flip due to the sprinklers soaking both the pitch and the field was
removed by Morphettville winning and choosing to bat. The soggy outfield wasn’t great for the
condition of the ball, we added quite a few to extras over the course of the innings and we
struggled to take wickets. Ruben got our first in the 5th over, but there was a drought until the
23rd over where Ethan struck twice, with a catch to Archie and removing the bails for the
second. Jay took our final wicket with the second-to-last ball of the innings.
Despite this, the energy was high and we clamped down on the runs. Only two people had an
economy above 3. Uncharacteristically, one of them was Brodie, who finished worst off with 6.
Ruben was the most miserly, allowing only 1 run from his 3 overs for an economy of 0.33. He
was followed by Archie at 1.5, Jack and Eddie C at 1.66, and Jay and Harry at 2.0. At the end of
the 30 overs Morphettville made 4-75.
The total seemed gettable, but in what no-doubt made for an interesting car ride home, Danny
was run out by Roni in the second over of the Falcons innings, after some aggressive calling by
Jack. Roni also later castled Archie and took a caught-and-bowled to dismiss Batoor, living up to
his pre-match expectations. Batoor, in his return to the team after a long break, played some
fantastic shots - an off-drive for 4 was a particular highlight.
By drinks we were 4-50, which was a fairly balanced position considering the total and that
Morphettville were 1-49 at the break in their innings. At this point Ruben was at the crease with
Harry, and set about taking the game away from Morphettville with three 4s and a 6 on his way
to 27*. Retirements lead Brodie to the crease with 9 needed to win. His several elegant shots for
4 to finish on 20* won us the match with 3 wickets in hand. In the end the match was wound up
after Archie and Eddie played out their innings with the total at 7-103.
We’re currently sitting at 8 wins from 12 matches. One of the matches in which we weren’t
successful was abandoned due to lightning, so we only have 3 losses so far. In the context of
past seasons, this is a fantastic result - let’s keep up the good work for the final 3!
