Amity Place Thrift Shop has been open now for 4 months, and it's been an amazing experience setting up the space, meeting locals, receiving donations and ongoing support.

The funds from the thrift sales, Bubble & Squeak formal dress hire and our fundraising workshops and events, go toward the work that Amity Place provides for people and families impacted by domestic and family violence.

We provide holistic counselling, peer support, court and legal support, advocacy, holistic therapies, and many more person-centred supports as required.

Now, while we're new and people are still finding us, we really need to have our community share what we do with their friends, family and networks, so we can continue to fund our services as well as pay the rent!

We are currently self and community funded and don't receive any government funding, however, we are working toward applying for charity and DGR status, between moments in our busy days.

Please support and share our pages Amity Place and Amity Place Thrift Shop and Bubble & Squeak far and wide, so more people are aware of our thrift shop, formal dress hire, our fundraising workshops, events and services.

If anyone has retail or relevant experience and has time to do volunteer work in our thrift shop for a half or full day, so Blu and I can facilitate workshops and the DFV support services, please email [email protected]

If anyone is a proficient grant writer, book keeper or has other helpful skills and knowledge to volunteer, please email [email protected]

Thank you for being part of positive change.
From Sonja and Blu and the Amity Place Team.

The other day I posted about how those little yellow clearance stickers Bunnings put on plants, brings out the empath in me.

Today another shopping related reflection.

!The Aldi car park in Arana Hills!

This brings out the ANARCHIST in me.

It brings me sheer joy the way in which all road rules disappear when entering the Aldi side of the car park.

It’s not just young tradies in their Utes that ignore all road rules.
It’s everyone!

Frail elderly, and young mothers.
People driving Teslas and beat up trucks.

Through the chaos and the confusion safety and courtesy shine through.

I love the PUNK-ness of the community collectively abandoning all road rules to make it from one end of the car park to the other.

Each time I go I feel a desire to skip with joy to the absolute disregard to the rules!

Love it or hate it, if you’ve ever used it, I’m sure you have had some sort or response.

One day I’m sure the council will do something about it, but for now I have a little joy and rebellious excitement every time I go to buy milk!!

Photos of other beautiful times of anarchy in the streets.

Because although I am embracing the Punk movement here there’s no need to take photos of people’s cars 🤣🤣🤣

When the temperature drops we tend to hold more tension in our muscles.

When the cold wind howls through the window our shoulders tense up towards our shoulders as we brace against the wind.

Heat packs can help relax braced muscles.

At Yogasol our massage table is heated to encourage your muscular tension to melt away.

So many of the larger tour companies load these amazing young men,and more commonly now women, up with ridiculously heavy loads.
They send these porters out early before you have finished breakfast so the group doesn’t see the hardship in which they suffer to make you comfortable.

Yogasols treks are not like this. Our porters stay with us the whole time. They chat they are a part of your journey.

We never allow our porters to carry more than 20kg.

Our porters are a valued member of our team and we treat them as one of us.

Please when booking your tours make sure they are ethical in the treatment of these incredible people that are inseparable from the mountains.
Without them there is no tourism.
Without them things are so much harder.
Insist you meet your porter and more importantly tip your porter directly.
Often their families depend on them coming home safely.

When I was growing up the words we had for people like me were

“Bleeding hearts and artists”

Now we have a much kinder word

“Empath”

So hands up all you empaths with your bleeding hearts and artistic minds. 🙌

Who else sees these yellow stickers and feels your heart bleed a little.

Convincing yourself that you’re ‘saving’
this poor plant from euthanasia!

Or is it just that I have zero self control when it comes to pretty plants?

One thing that has happened with the new classes is the advancement of the poses.

With smaller numbers we are able to explore further into our poses at a pace that is safe and supported.

Sundays later class requests were “Balance”
So we did the usual bird/dog type poses, followed by standing on one leg (ok a bit more complex than that but you get the point)

We then moved to a rope supported shoulder stand which was so seamless we quickly and spontaneously moved to full shoulder stand.

!This is a huge advancement for everyone in the room.!

Watching the confidence and strength in Savangasana it was so clear that headstand (the king of all poses) was going to be available to each person in the class.

The joy in the room when every single person achieved a beautiful straight strong Sirsanasana was electric!

It’s not often a yoga class ends with an eruption of clapping and high-fives!

How wonderful when it does!

Well done everyone.

I have this one female that often turns up very late.
She’s quite disruptive, never loud, but just demands attention from the others.
She has no idea of personal space often sitting on someone else’s blanket space.
She also usually leaves without paying.
I’m sure she just comes for Savasana.
The problem is, if she hasn’t been for a while the others start asking after her.
I think she is well liked.
I managed to catch a photo of her sitting on someone else’s blanket and ignoring all instructions (just staring at the wall)
What should I do about this situation?

🤣😻😽🥰
