We're calling on Somerset and South East Queensland artists to deliver a mural for the Somerset Fish Habitat Revitalisation Project.

The artwork would rejuvenate a redundant concrete water tank at Twin Bridges Reserve in Fernvale and celebrate the region’s aquatic habitat and species.

📅 Submissions close - 12pm, Friday 6 February 2026.

Paddlers beware of sewage in Brisbane River through the city

UPDATE: 5:45pm, Tuesday 18 November 2025

⚠️ This advice has been lifted. ⚠️

The signs will be taken down at public access points in the coming days.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete this once-in-a-generation renewal of the Bulimba-Hamilton Siphon.

⚠️ Important advice: Please temporarily avoid contact with part of the river between Vic Lucas Park at Bulimba and Colmslie Beach Reserve at Murarrie.

A wastewater release has occurred due to recent heavy rain during a critical project. Activities such as swimming, wading, rowing, kayaking or fishing should be avoided in the impacted area.

We also urge everyone to always follow the advice of authorities to avoid contact with waterways during and after heavy rain.

A rethink is needed for Twin Bridges & other river reserves.
With Hills Crossing Reserve closed to all but an entitled few, the issues have been moved elsewhere, not solved.

Please don’t be one or the rude ignorant people that park cars & caravans on the boat ramp at Twin Bridges Reserve.
There is plenty of car parking available but there is only one place a boat can be launched on the whole river.

Work is under way by Somerset Regional Council to provide better kayak launching access to the river at Heart Attack Hill, Wivenhoe Pocket. 👍 🛶
Commonly referred to as “Heart Attack Hill” the previous goat track to the river at this site was steep & dangerous ⚠️
The pathway will be for pedestrian access to the river, not vehicles.

Camping is NOT permitted & there are no amenities provided.

Construction works are still underway so please wait until completed to access this site.

Watch this space for updates. ✔️
