The first ever Droneshield Tiny Whoop Australian Championships were held in Canberra over the weekend of of 13-14 September 2025. 50 of Australia’s fastest micro racing pilots converged on the nation’s capital to race on a world class LED lit and technologically advanced track. The atmosphere inside Canberra’s Deakin Club was full of fun, smiles and the thrill of micro flight - however as the racing started to heat up, the intensity and desire to win grew amongst the pilots.

Pilots came from all corners of the country to compete and win prizes with pilots from Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth all in attendance.

Qualifying consisted of pilots' single fastest lap with pilots spending the first day feeling out the complexities of the track, finding their lines and establishing dominance on the leaderboard. The Top Qualifier position changed consistently throughout day 1 until Melbourne’s Gabe ‘IQ0’ Barrasso emerged as the fastest with a time of 24.55 seconds - over 3 seconds faster than anyone else on the track.

Despite the hot action on the track - innovation was the theme of the event - with all pilots able to take home prizes through various new mechanics. First pilot to hit their ready button got to dive into the Gemfan Glory Box to win some new (or possibly old) Gemfan props. First pilot to fly through the crash pad got to spin a wheel to take home a wide selection of prizes from our many wonderful sponsors. Prizes ranged from a full BetaFPV 65 Air through to battery straps, props, t-shirts and more. Pilots also took the opportunity to join in to the raffle to win even more prizes - ensuring that everyone regardless of their final position on the leaderboard could go home a winner from the event.

Come the 2nd day of the event, the innovation continued with a Double Elimination, Bump Up Brackets final format. Pilots were grouped into 16 brackets with double elimination finals head for each bracket. The Top 4 of each bracket would then move up to the next bracket for the opportunity to complete their very own Tiny Whoop Bradbury moment!

The most significant Bradbury of the event was that of Jesse Perkins - Mr Tiny Whoop himself, moving out of D Main and into C Main, falling agonisingly short of making it to the B main as his battery died centremetres away from crossing the finishing line.

The other miracle story of the event was that of Justhappytobehere - qualifying in 14th position flying a brand new BetaFPV 65Air on default settings. After some tuning and a few cheeky beers, he was able to move into the Top 10 from the B Main bracket.

As the event moved towards the pinnacle of the A Mains the racing intensity was dialled to 11, as top pilots succumbed to the pressure of micro racing. Our final 4 left us with our TQ, IQ0, 3rd seed Digsky and 4th seed Ironoid, both from Melbourne and the lovable and always stoked 6th seed whirlpool bath Jay from the NSW South Coast and representing CMRC.

IQ0’s speed and pure dominance was too much as he took the competition in straight sets. Two Aces in a row to confirm he is Australia’s fastest 1s Micro Racing champion!

A huge thank you goes to all our Sponsors - Droneshield, Airlock Digital, HDZero, BetaFPV, Gemfan, HGLRC, MantisFPV, HappyModel, MEPSKing, ViFly, VCI and Rising Sun FPV.
Thanks to all pilots and all volunteers and supporters who made this one of the best National level drone racing events Australia has seen! A Huge thank you also to Tiny Whoop - Jesse Perkins for making the trip to Australia, commentating and bringing the joy of micro flight to all of us at the event!
