The Exmouth Game Fishing Club is a local club with membership from across Australia that come together for fishing tournaments throughout the year.

The Exmouth Game Fishing Club fosters recreational fishing in all its forms (game, sport and fly) in the Ningaloo region, hosting regular tournaments and community events, including WA's premier fishing tournament GAMEX We offer bar & restaurant facilities to the general public and members, and boast an amazing venue with incredible views of the Exmouth Gulf as well as the best value meals and drinks in Exmouth.

Something a bit different on the scales recently. Viv Crombie was in town all the way from Lord Howe Island fishing Exmouth Gulf with Ningaloo Sportfishing Charters when she caught this 9.92kg giant herring (aka ladyfish). Normally a catch and release species, this fish unfortunately wasn't fit for release, so the crew decided to weigh it in as a potential world record. Once approved, this fish will smash the current IGFA All-Tackle World Record by some 6.3kgs!

2026 LADIES TOURNAMENT RESULTS
What a fantastic weekend it was for the 2026 Ladies Tournament. 15 boats and 29 lady anglers made it the biggest ladies comp we've had yet, and the fleet enjoyed some great weather and fishing to notch up 76 billfish caught & released which comprised of 46 black marlin and 30 sailfish.
Team Invincible ran well north to take advantage of a sailfish bite happening up that way and took out Champion Team Billfish and Champion Team Sailfish with 22 sails, while the rest of the fleet fished the local grounds where Team Mubank slotted in for Runner-Up Champion Team Billfish with 4 marlin & 5 sailfish, with Team Black Marlin in third place and also Champion Team Marlin with 7 marlin.
Team Mudbank also took out Heaviest Other Pelagic with a 10.74kg cobia, and Skyne Mulloy (Big Buoy), Kymmie Thorburn (Invincible), Maddy Nash (Another Favour) and Bec Mepham (Mudbank) scored prizes for the first/last billfish released each day.
The Kath Ryan Legacy Award for the lady angler who best exemplifies the spirit of game fishing was awarded to the very deserving Jess Bourne.

SCORE UPDATE AFTER DAY 1 OF THE 2026 EXMOUTH LADIES TOURNAMENT
Great weather and some pretty decent fishing to match for day one. The fleet of 15 boats released 45 billfish, consisting of 30 black marlin and 15 sailfish.
The current leaderboard stands as -
1st Place
Invincible - 13 sails (5200 points)
2nd Place
Black Marlin - 7 marlin (3500 points)
3rd Place
Big Buoy - 4 marlin, 1 sail (2400 points)

RULES UPDATE FOR EGFC TOURNAMENTS
Please be aware of a new rule concerning omnidirectional sonar systems (aka OMNI sonar) the Exmouth Game Fishing Club Management Committee has now adopted for all future EGFC tournaments -

Omnidirectional Sonar: Omnidirectional sonar systems (aka OMNI sonar) are not permitted to be used by any team during EGFC tournaments.
Any team fishing from a boat which has an Omnidirectional sonar system must declare this at time of entry, and ensure the system is switched off at all times before and during each tournament fishing day.
Any team found to be using an Omnidirectional sonar system during a tournament fishing day will have all tournament points forfeit and be disqualified from the tournament.

This new rule has been introduced in response to member/competitor concerns over the inequity that may be caused by only a small number of boats being able afford/fit OMNI technology at the moment, and the potential for entry numbers and goodwill towards tournament winning teams to be impacted by this perceived lack of an even playing field.
Boats with an OMNI sonar system will still be permitted to fish our tournaments, but must declare they have OMNI at time of entry and not use the technology before or during tournament fishing times (before being in the lead up to lines in on a fishing day). This will be enforced via an honesty system only.
As we recognise this equipment is just the latest in a long line of technological advancements to impact game fishing, the rule is expected to be temporary – remaining in place only until such time as the technology becomes more affordable/suitable for smaller boats. At which point we may look at handicap scoring or separate sections, or just plain removing the rule altogether.

A huge thanks to the Shire of Exmouth and in particular Shire President (and EGFC member) Matt Niikkula Shire President for the power of work and negotiations with Defence they have put in since Cyclone Narelle to get this important community asset back open to the public. As a club we really appreciate the effort and outcome. Well done guys 👍

ENTRIES OPEN FOR THE 2026 LADIES TOURNAMENT
📅 August 15 & 16
With over $5,000 in cash and prizes to be won across a range of tournament sections, it's set to be a fun weekend for all.
Entry is $160 per angler and $60 per crew member (plus a 1.88% processing fee), which includes a tournament shirt for all anglers and presentation dinner for all entrants and crew members. This is not a WAGFA sanctioned event, so competitors do not need to be current EGFC or GFAA affiliated club members to enter.

The Junior Billfish tournament ran well with 36 billfish raised, 28 hooked and 19 caught over 2 days

Runner up Junior team went to Black and Blue
Champion Team Junior went to BALLZ Deep

Champion Mixed team went to Black Marlin

Sections for first Marlin and Sailfish Day 1 & 2 went to Tana, Jarrah, Jacob and Ben

By Catch Day 1 went to Jaxon with a 10.35 kg wahoo
By Catch Day 2 went to Jessie with a 6.15 kg mackerel

Champion Skipper went to Paul from Flying Freckle with 7 marlin caught over 2 days.
