ReelDance is an internationally recognised arts organisation supporting innovative collaborative practice across dance, film and new media art. We provide a forum for dance screen culture, developing and defining this artistic field of practice in Australia and New Zealand, and promoting local work both nationally and internationally. ReelDance curates, presents and consults on programs of single

and multi-screen works for exhibitions, broadcast and festivals. Other activities include professional development for those working in the field of dance screen through workshops and forums, creating distribution opportunities for Australian dance filmmakers. Also, ReelDance has established the Moving Image Collection, a significant archive of Australian and New Zealand dance screen works. ReelDance is the Australian representative within the Media and Dance network (MAD) of dance screen organisations worldwide.

The International Journal of Screendance (IJS): Call For Submissions to Issue #4

The IJS invites contributions from theorists and artists, dancers and screen dance makers to address topics such as: How is screen dance influenced by the ubiquitous presence of screens in popular culture and contemporary art, dance, and performance? How does screen dance change the critical discourses surrounding film, video, and new media? What new geographies and global contexts exist for screen dance? How are conversations about screen dance changing and evolving across different parts of screen dance communities? Approx length: 4,000–6,000 words, by March 2013 (publication date: April 2014).

‘Cunningham’s pioneering incorporation of technology into his work is also revealed in the app through excerpts of his working process with LifeForms, the computer software program he used as a tool in his choreography since the 1990s … The app itself evokes the Cage/Cunningham sensibility regarding chance and the coexistence of elements in time and space, as it provides the viewer with various choices to navigate through the collected material.’
