MA 間, meaning “space” in Japanese aesthetics, is a project led by virtuoso hand percussionist Tunji Beier, drawing on diverse musical traditions. It explores the restoration and transformation of Japanese traditional and folk music through a fusion of classical instrumentation and technology.
Beier collaborates with performer, composer, and internationally renowned multi-instrumentalist Adrian Sherriff, alongside Japanese traditional instrument master Takako Haggarty, creating a rich intercultural dialogue.
At its core, Ma is not emptiness, but a charged space between sounds where resonance deepens and meaning unfolds. It is within this space that connection, creativity, and cultural exchange emerge, shaping music that is both dynamic and expressive.
