He was one of standout players at the Under 17 nationals, cracking 18 sixes and gaining team-of-the-tournament honours for his 235 runs, made at 47.

Vale Shane Eaton.

20th April 2026.

It is with much sadness, we must report the untimely death of our Vice-President, Shane Eaton.

The club was advised Shane died suddenly, at home yesterday morning, aged just 52 years .

Shane has been a much-loved Committeeman and Vice-President at Essendon CC for more than 10 years.

A real character, Shane couldn’t have been more popular with the players and fellow committee members, alike.

He was the first to put his hand up to assist or undertake any required task.

Essendon CC is a blue-collar club, and he was a proud blue-collar committeeman.

Any running repairs / jobs required – Shane was on to it.

Sight-screens, nets, anything.

He was a warm man who bonded with all players, Essendon and opposition, across all grades.

He was a genuine charmer and communicator, with his direct ‘no-nonsense’ approach.

Shane is survived by his wife, Rosh, his son (ECC past player) Josh and daughter Chelsea.

They are also loved by all at ECC, and our condolences go out to them.

Funeral details will be provided in the future.
