We’re incredibly proud to have a number of Esperance Hockey players representing WA at the Hockey Australia Masters Championships over the coming weeks! ❤️🖤

The Women’s Championships are being held in Adelaide, South Australia from Thursday 24 September – Saturday 3 October, while the Men’s Championships take place on the Gold Coast, Queensland from Thursday 24 September – Saturday 10 October.

VALE JAYME BERGMAN 💚❤️

Tonight, our hockey family is grieving the loss of our incredible friend, Jayme.

Jayme was such an important part of the Esperance Hockey Association and the wider Esperance community. She was the definition of selfless — always giving her time, energy and talents to others. She played in our senior competition, coached our juniors and was always willing to volunteer whenever she was needed, particularly in the canteen. And it wasn’t just hockey — Jayme gave so generously to so many sports and community events.

Her energy seemed to know no bounds. We all knew she could turn up to hockey having already knocked over a 5km run (often more!), and her incredible talent and determination saw her compete in and win ultramarathons and some seriously gruelling events.

And on the hockey field, she was our speedy Emu 💚❤️ — sneaking up and stealing the ball before you even knew what had happened.

Jayme gave so much to our club and our community, and her absence will be deeply felt. She touched the lives of so many people, and we feel incredibly blessed to have had her as part of our hockey family.

Jayme was remembered by our junior hockey community at their wind-ups today, and tomorrow we will come together again as a senior hockey community, with a minute’s silence before the senior games to honour her memory.

Our thoughts are especially with Enoch, Elijah, Lewis, Adelaide and Angus, and the Bergman and Wellington families as they face this unimaginable loss. We also extend our love and thoughts to the many friends and members of the wider Esperance community who are mourning Jayme.

Please look out for each other over the coming days, support one another and be kind. We are a hockey family, and we will get through this together.

Rest peacefully, Jayme. You will be so very missed. ❤️

🏑 GRAND FINAL DAY TOMORROW! 🏑

A few quick reminders to help make tomorrow a great day for everyone:

📍 Field set-up:
➡️ Players & teams: Please set up on the Harbour Road side of the field. This area is for players, coaches and team managers only.
➡️ All supporters & spectators: Please set up on the clubhouse side of the field.

⚠️ Please stay well back behind the marked 3m line at all times. This is important for everyone’s safety and allows our umpires a clear view and safe path up and down the field.

🏆 Junior awards will be presented on the fields after each game, weather permitting.

🍔 Bar & canteen will be open throughout the day, with burgers available in the evening after the senior Grand Finals.

🎟️ And don’t forget — the Turf Raffle will be drawn at 6pm!

🏑 GRAND FINAL WEEK | RESPECT & SPORTSMANSHIP

As we get closer to the big games this Saturday, we want to take a moment to acknowledge and sincerely thank everyone who has umpired throughout the year.

Whether you have represented your own team by completing your umpiring duties, or stepped in as a paid umpire to cover games for another team, your time and commitment have been incredibly valuable. Our games simply cannot go ahead without umpires, and the Association genuinely appreciates the contribution each of you has made throughout the season. ❤️

To those selected to umpire the Grand Finals this weekend — all the very best! These appointments recognise the consistency, fairness and composure you have demonstrated throughout the season, and we hope you enjoy being part of the big day.

And to our coaches, parents, team managers and spectators — we know these are big games. There will be excitement, nerves and plenty of passion on the sidelines, and that’s what makes finals hockey special.

But let’s keep it positive, respectful and fun.

A comment made in the heat of the moment can sometimes land much more harshly than intended. On the other hand, a quiet word of encouragement or a positive shout from the sideline might just give a player, umpire or coach that extra bit of confidence they needed.

There are kids, parents and grandparents watching. Let’s give them a quality game that shows the very best of our Association — both on and off the field.
