Congratulations to Gregory on earning his Gracie Combatives Belt!👊

He's always cheerful, always ready to train, and if you've spent any time around Emerald, there's a good chance you've spotted him out for a jog before class!

One thing that stands out about Greg is his curiosity. He doesn't just want to learn a technique, he wants to understand it. He's not afraid to ask questions, explore details, and test concepts to deepen his understanding.

That mindset is invaluable in Jiu Jitsu. It creates great discussions, encourages learning, and often reminds us why the fundamentals are so important in the first place.

Congratulations, Greg. We are incredibly proud of your progress and excited to welcome you to Master Cycle.

Please help us congratulate Greg on this fantastic milestone! 👏

If the walls could talk, what would they say? They’d say that Mark is basically part of the furniture here. Like so many at Ranges, he dedicates his time to improving himself and those around him.
Your continued growth and understanding of the art and its leverage without strength is wonderful to witness.

Congratulations Mark on your 4th stripe!

The Triple Threat has arrived. 🥋

Congratulations to Manny, Binesh and Lincoln on earning their Gracie Combatives Belts!

A Triple Threat may be a Jiu Jitsu technique, but it's also a fitting way to describe these three gentlemen.

Always smiling. Always respectful. Always eager to learn.

Each of them has put in the time, shown consistency, and embraced the process. They represent what we're proud to call the Ranges way; train collaboratively, stay humble, support your teammates, and keep showing up.

Belts aren't awarded for a single great class. They're earned through countless classes, repetitions, questions, challenges and small improvements along the way.

Manny, Binesh and Lincoln, we're incredibly proud of your achievement and excited to welcome you into Master Cycle.

The next chapter starts now.

Please join us in congratulating these three on a well earned milestone! 👏👏👏

Most people don't quit because Jiu-Jitsu is hard. They never start because they think they won't fit in

If you've ever wondered what a typical class at Ranges looks like, this is it.

People learning. Asking questions. Helping each other. Sharing a laugh when things don't quite go to plan.

No egos. No pressure to be perfect.

Just a group of people working together to become a little more capable than they were yesterday.

That's especially true in our beginner programs. Whether it's a child stepping onto the mats for the first time or an adult joining Combatives with zero experience, everyone starts somewhere.

Tonight's Combatives class covers the Kimura Armlock from Guard and Leg Hook Takedown, one more step on a structured path designed to help everyday people learn practical self-defence.

If you've been thinking about giving Jiu Jitsu a try, consider this your reminder that you don't have to be fit, flexible or experienced to begin.

You just have to begin.

This was a special week at Ranges.

A huge congratulations to Jamie on earning his Gracie Combatives Belt - the first teen in our academy's history to achieve this milestone through our Combatives pathway.

What makes this achievement even more meaningful is that Jamie’s journey didn't begin in Combatives.

It began years ago in Little Champs.

Like so many of our kids, Jamie started as a young student learning the basics. Over the years, he has quietly continued to show up. Through school, life, growing up and all the distractions that come with being a teenager, he kept coming back to the mats.

Jiu Jitsu is a story. Not of days, weeks or months.

It's a story told over years.

If we were to describe Jamie, we'd say he's always been the student who pays attention. The student who likes to understand things properly. The student who values learning and takes his training seriously. Never loud. Never seeking attention. Just quietly focused on improving.

He's always been respectful, always willing to help others, and despite now being one of our senior youth students, he still never leaves the gym without saying goodbye.

Those things matter.

We're also grateful for the support of Jamie’s dad, who trains alongside him and has been part of that journey from the beginning.

As instructors, one of the most rewarding things we get to witness is seeing young people grow into themselves. Watching Jamie mature, gain confidence and continue showing up week after week has been a privilege.

For the younger students coming through Little Champs, Black Belt Club and Junior Grapplers, Jamie is now showing exactly what's possible when you stay the course.

Congratulations Jamie! This belt is incredibly well deserved, and we can't wait to see where the next chapter of your Jiu Jitsu journey takes you.

Please join us in congratulating Jamie on this outstanding achievement. 👏🥋

One of the things we love most about training in the hills is that people tend to value the simple things.

Good people. Genuine conversations. Learning something worthwhile.

That's what Jiu Jitsu has always been to us.

Not everyone walks through our doors wanting to compete. Most are looking for something far more practical; confidence, self defence, a challenge, a way to switch off from the demands of everyday life.

That's why our Women Empowered and Gracie Combatives programs are such an important part of what we do. They're designed specifically for beginners, providing a structured pathway to learn practical self defence in a supportive environment where nobody expects you to know anything before you start.

Tonight in Combatives class #15, we'll be working through Headlock Escape from Side Mount and the Clinch against a Conservative Opponent. Simple, effective skills that build confidence one step at a time.

And for those of us living in the hills, we all know how quickly the temperature drops once the sun goes down.

So why not trade a cold evening on the couch for warm mats, good company and an hour invested in yourself?

At first glance, it looks like kids learning an armlock.

Look a little closer and you'll see problem-solving, communication, patience and teamwork.

The technique is important. The confidence that comes from learning it is even more important.

That's what keeps us passionate about teaching kids.

4.30 pm Black Belt Club
5.15 pm Junior Grapplers

Come see what our local hills kids are learning on and off the mats.

Thinking about starting Jiu Jitsu, but not sure where to begin?

That’s exactly what Gracie Combatives is for.

A beginner-friendly program where anyone, regardless of age, fitness or experience can start learning practical self defence in a safe, collaborative environment.

We’re proud to be a hills academy. And if there’s one thing the hills understands, it’s community. Good people, supporting each other, learning together.

Tonight’s Combatives class #13 covers the Straight Armlock from Guard and Clinch against an aggressive opponent.

If you’ve been considering giving it a go… really, what have you got to lose?

One of the simplest skills we can teach our kids… is often one of the most overlooked.

This week, our students have been learning the clinch - understanding how to manage distance, close the gap while protecting the face, and finish in a position of control.

Distance management might sound simple, but it’s a fundamentally important skill in self defence. Knowing when to create space, when to close the distance, and how to stay calm while doing it matters.

That’s the beauty of teaching kids Jiu Jitsu; the lessons go beyond the technique itself.

If you’re a local family in Emerald or the surrounding hills and have been curious about what we do, come and see our kids classes in action. Chances are, you’ll find kids learning important life skills, building confidence, and genuinely enjoying themselves along the way.
