Over the years, Toby has shown what consistency, hard work and commitment really look like. Through all the early mornings, tough sessions and years of dedication, he’s achieved an incredible 30kg weight loss, some outstanding PBs and completely transformed his health and fitness.

Toby has been part of TEAM for so long that it’s hard to imagine the gym without him in it. His presence, humour and work ethic will be hugely missed by both coaches and members alike.

Dialling in the small details is what turns an average lift into a powerful, efficient one!

Here are some great cues to think about for your next bench press…

Eccentric Phase (lowering bar to chest):
1. Break at the shoulders
2. Emphasise retraction (pulling your shoulder blades back together) and depression (drawing your shoulder blades down towards your hips) of shoulder blades
3. Bring chest out to the bar

Concentric Phase (pushing the bar up):
1. Emphasise leg drive (heels down)
2. Drive bodyweight into the bench
3. Push yourself away from the bar
