Wayne and Nicky have proudly owned CrossFit Diamond Valley together for the past 10 years, and CFDV itself is now a 15-year CrossFit affiliate.
Wayne’s CrossFit journey began back in 2009 while training at The Ridge. Programming workouts and training with friends in the main gym quickly turned into a passion. It didn’t take long for him to become completely hooked on the methodology and everything CrossFit stands for.
In 2011, Wayne officially started Ridge CrossFit in a dedicated room of the main gym upstairs. After a year it had grown so much that it was decided it needed to be relocated. The opportunity came up to move downstairs and in November 2012 the transition was complete and the box re branded to CrossFit Diamond Valley.
In 2016, Wayne approached Nicky to buy into CFDV as a 50% owner and Head Coach. While the coaching staff remained the same, we made changes to how classes were delivered, always with a clear and uncompromising vision: to deliver the CrossFit methodology in its purest form and never stray from it. We are, and always will be, firm believers that this is the best way to train.
We introduced a second coach to sessions to ensure a higher level of service—coaching members to movement standards, refining technique, and maintaining the quality CFDV is known for.
Over the years, we’ve continued to invest in the gym and the community: extending the rig, installing new flooring, purchasing significant amounts of barbells, plates, and dumbbells, and continually adding machines. One of Nicky’s early goals was to have enough machines to program workouts that could be completed entirely on them—something few gyms had at the time. This allowed us to increase programming variety and deliver even better fitness outcomes for our members.
Fifteen years brings with it some truly unforgettable moments:
• Our CrossFit camp to the summit paved the way for the coming together of a remarkable community that has continued to grow every year
• Our pioneering CrossFit weightlifting competitions which hosted athletes from interstate and set the standard for competitions that followed
• The unwavering support this community shows for its own:
o Raising an incredible amount of funds for Josh after his accident, as well as providing meals for months afterward
o Fundraising to send Josh and Nicky to Wodapalooza in Miami for Josh’s first Adaptive competition
o Supporting Josh again to compete at the Adaptive CrossFit Games
• Many years spent supporting and raising money for children with autism through spectrum superstars
• The Team Kill Cancer fundraiser and Greg & Liz supporter T-shirts—thanks to two of our Masters legends, we raised $5,000, which was then doubled through a charitable connection from Aaron Whitehead, resulting in a mind-blowing $10,000 raised.
• Fortunate to have had 3 members make the Crossfit Games and achieve amazing results
• Josh 1st in the Adaptive Crossfit Games
• Greg 1st in his first year at the Masters Crossfit Games and qualifying the following year
• Liz 4th in her first year at the Masters Crossfit Games
• Coming together within 24 hours to provide financial support for one of our own battling cancer. Combined with Team Kill Cancer funds, this support meant the world to Laura and her family.
• The passing of Laura shook us to our core. It is a memory that will stay with us forever. Completing the “Laura” workout each year on her anniversary remains deeply important to this community and always will be.
• The CrossFit Open—from five to three incredible weeks each year. The atmosphere, the encouragement, and the way you all support one another is exactly why CFDV is such a special place to train, and more importantly, to belong.
• The CFDV Kids program—one of the original kids programs—which continues to change the lives of young athletes by helping them move better, build confidence, and grow in a safe, respectful environment.
• Super Saturdays—what a vibe. Incredible memories, amazing food, plenty of banter, and moments perfectly captured by Anthony Rogers every time.
The 15 years of CFDV—and more specifically the 10 years Wayne and I have owned it together—have been an absolutely incredible journey. We have truly changed lives. But every journey has an end point, and we are now at a stage where it is time to hand the reins to someone who lives and breathes CrossFit, is deeply embedded in this community, and will take CFDV into its next chapter.
We are incredibly proud and excited to announce that Sean Weston is the new owner of CrossFit Diamond Valley. We could not be happier for him or more confident in the future of CFDV under his leadership.
Sean will officially take over on 1st March.
Thank you to every single person who has been part of this journey. CFDV will always be home.
