As of 15:25 20 January 2026, Mansfield Shire Council has received an update regarding the status of the Maroondah Highway from the Longwood fire Incident Control Centre.

At this time, the Incident Controller is limiting non essential travel on the stretch of road between the road blocks in Yea and Bonnie Doon. The road is only open to essential and emergency services workers and residents whose homes are situated between the road blocks in Yea and Bonnie Doon.

Tourists are not permitted to enter the road block between Yea and Bonnie Doon, regardless of their direction of travel.

Residents of wider Mansfield Shire are not permitted to enter the road block between Yea and Bonnie Doon, regardless of their direction of travel.

The area between Yea and Bonnie Doon has been impacted by the Longwood fire. Relief and recovery efforts are underway and the road needs to be kept clear for essential and emergency services workers.

Mansfield Shire, east of the road block in Bonnie Doon, remains accessible to tourists and residents through Benalla.

Please note Mansfield Shire Council has no part in setting the official advice, we simply relay it to the community as quickly and as clearly as we can.

For all the latest news on road closures, please follow the VicTraffic app.

A statement on Thursday 15th January 2026 on behalf of the Eildon Fire Brigade Captain, Nicki Lund.

1. The status of the Longwood-Berry's Lane Fire on the VicEmergency App is Not Yet Under Control. This incorporates the entire fire perimeter and will likely remain as this status until the complete fire area is deemed safe for the community to re-enter.
2. You may see some fire reports appear on the VicEmergency App / Watch Zone within the fire perimeter, which may be routine tasking of crew within the already fire affected area eg. tree on fire. You need to monitor the warnings as issued and act accordingly.
3. The Eildon Township was fortunate not to be impacted in this fire due to the good work of many and some favourable weather conditions. Our thoughts are with those who have been impacted.
4. The Devil's River Sector, incorporating the Maintongoon Park Road to Eildon Township, is currently Contained within fire breaks and burnt out areas.
5. There are still crew from FFMVic and CFA working within this Sector. You will also see heavy plant and machinery (dozers) which will be working on the existing fire breaks around the Eildon Township. This is preparation work for any future fires whilst we have the access to the heavy equipment. The community should not be alarmed by this work being undertaken.
6. The current weather predictions are forecasting similar to the past few days however heating up towards the end of the week commencing 19th January. We all need to remain vigilant as the weather could change with minimal notice.
7. Please refer to the VicEmergency app for updates regarding the current status of the fire within and surrounding the Eildon/Alexandra area.
8. There is a lot of misinformation shared across various social networks which is not accurate. It is the brigade's recommendation that both the CFA and VicEmergency Apps should be your trusted source of information.
9. Whilst this weather and fire activity are low, local brigades are going back to normal response activities and the station may not be manned during this period so that the members can also go back to normal routine.

In closing, the existing predictions are that the fire should not further impact the Eildon Township and surrounding area. Continue to remain vigilant and adhere to the warnings when issued and at the end of the day stay safe and look after each other during this current and future challenging times.

There is still a long fire season ahead and if you did not have a fire plan, we hope you certainly do now.
The brigade is extremely grateful for all of the well wishes and support we have received. Please share this important information throughout your networks.

Kind regards
Nicki Lund
Eildon Fire Brigade Captain
