RACE DAY REVIEW.
Not the race result we were looking for but some promising outcomes.
Qualifyer 1
After a nice burnout, Rolled forward into pre stage. Jump on the 2 step but couldn't build any rpm. Fearing a dropped plug, Shannon aborted this run. Turns out the Dyna ignition remote display defaulted to 2200rpm.
Qualifyer 2 - Left lane
Bigger burnout. Checked 2 step rpm on the Dyna (all good) and roll into stage. Build RPM and we're off. 9.301 @ 130mph. A little slower than expected but a nice clean pass.
Qualifyer 3 - Right lane
Solid burnout. 2 step still ok. Stage and blam. Punch out of the line and hit 2nd, bike starts to surge then drops out of gear. Thumb the shifter again and press on. 9.5 .
So we qualify mid pack and face Mathew Welch in the first eliminator.
The bike is making good power but Shannon is finding around the 130mph mark it starts flexing the rear tyre causing it to shake (big tyre problems right?) Not wanting to shut off and end up a bloody feature in the breaking area, he keeps the taps open until it settles.
Eliminator 1 - Right lane
Matt and Shannon start the Modified Bike elimination rounds in style. 2 x bar bike smoking up the house. Matt with a 10.19 dial in and Shannon with a 9.28.
Matt leaves first with his handicap start and screams out of the gates. Shannon gets let loose and starts the hunt. The bike launches perfectly, carrying the front wheel and straight as an arrow. 2nd gear, now the bike starts to move right towards the wall. Just keep it wide open and eyes fixed on Matt.
1/2 track and we are still gaining on Matt, 3rd gear then 4th. As we get level with Matt Shannon grabs 5th gear and the bike wants to spit him off. We're level now at the 1000ft mark, bike shaking it's head, finish line just ahead and unable to get off the gas.
This feels like a fast pass......and it was......too fast for our dial in. Shannon ran 9.26 @ 137mph on a 9.28 dial in. 200's of a second too quick causing us to break out. Matt gets the win and we are eliminated. Well done mate.
Disappointed not to be advancing through to the next round but it was a great race against a great competitor.
Shannon would like to thank Matthew Lilly, Seb Tee, Mick Dwinger for all their help throughout the day. Seb captured a ton of photos and videos which we upload in the coming days.
A huge thanks to Code Red Laser and Parramatta Lollipops. We were able to get some great photos for you and Seb was outstanding by handing out the promotional material throughout the day.
We will be racing again in 2 weeks at the Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Drags and hope to repeat our win at this event last year.
