We’re kicking off an exciting new chapter of Out on the Paddock with the launch of our brand-new segment, “Legends of the Regions” 👏

And for our first episode, we couldn’t go past a true icon of country cricket - Albany’s own Terry Eaton.

Join host Rob Marshall as he chats with Terry about his incredible journey through WA Country Cricket - a career that spanned multiple associations, was inspired by one of Australia’s great Test players, and left a lasting impact on the game.

But Terry’s contribution doesn’t stop there. Off the field, his passion for cricket continues to shine through his tireless volunteering and dedication to growing the game across the Great Southern.

This is a story of dedication, humility, and a genuine love for country cricket - one you won’t want to miss.

📣 Update: Australian Country Cricket Championships – Women’s Division (2027)

We would like to share an important update with our WA country cricket community regarding the 2027 Australian Country Cricket Championships – Women’s Division.

The Australian Country Cricket Council (ACCC) has made the difficult decision to amend the hosting arrangements for 2027. Unfortunately, the Women’s Championships will no longer be hosted in the Busselton–Margaret River region and will instead be held in Country Victoria alongside the Men’s Division.

This is a deeply disappointing outcome. We know how much hosting national events means to our players, volunteers, clubs and regional communities, and we share the frustration that Western Australia will not have this opportunity in 2027.

While sponsorship discussions were ongoing, no formal agreement could be secured within the required timeframe. Combined with the current economic challenges - including rising fuel prices and significantly increased flight costs - it was ultimately not financially viable to deliver a standalone Women’s Championships in WA next year.

Importantly, this decision does not diminish Western Australia’s standing as a preferred host. The ACCC remains strongly committed to exploring every opportunity to bring the Women’s Australian Country Cricket Championships back to the Busselton–Margaret River region in 2028, subject to appropriate commercial and financial support.

We would also like to sincerely thank the Busselton Margaret River Cricket Association for their outstanding delivery of the 2026 Men’s Championships, which set a national benchmark for country cricket events. Our gratitude also extends to our valued Government partners - the WA State Government, Shire of Augusta Margaret River, and City of Busselton - for their continued support of country cricket in our region.

Thank you to our community for your understanding and ongoing support. We remain committed to strengthening country cricket across Australia and will continue to keep stakeholders informed as future hosting opportunities are progressed.

Regards

Rob Marshall

🏏 The 2025/26 WA Regional Cricket season gave us many great stories… but none quite like this.

Our season wrap of WA Regional Cricket Grand Finals continues with a match that can only be described as miraculous.

For the second consecutive year, Dalyellup Cricket Club met the undisputed powerhouse of the Bunbury & Districts Cricket Association Men’s A Grade - the Colts Cricket Club - in a late March 2026 two day Grand Final. And just like the 2025 decider, the script felt painfully familiar.

Colts were in control almost from the first session. Across two long days, everything pointed toward another Colts premiership. Dominance confirmed. Fate sealed.

…or so it seemed.

Cricket, as it so often does, refused to follow the script.

What unfolded late on Day 2 flipped certainty into chaos and defeat into disbelief. In the space of just a handful of overs, the match - and its legacy - was turned completely on its head in one of the most extraordinary finishes WA regional cricket has ever witnessed.

🎙️ Today’s guest, Mitch Boyle, was right in the thick of it as Dalyellup’s wicketkeeper. His first hand account places you right at the crease during those heart stopping final moments. It’s gripping, emotional, and a powerful reminder of why we all love this game.

This episode will take you back to your unforgettable matches - the ones where belief overcame the odds.

As we relive every twist and turn, we unpack a finish that will be talked about for decades to come.

🏏 Miracle Matches & Grand Final Drama – Out on the Paddock 🎙️

Each season in WA Country Cricket delivers its fair share of incredible finishes, but Season 2025/26 has taken things to another level. From last over thrillers to games that looked all but gone, we’ve seen Grand Finals that can only be described as “miracle matches” or “the great escape”.

The next two episodes of Out on the Paddock dive into a couple of these unforgettable Grand Finals - capturing the raw emotions on the field, the twists and turns, and those moments where the script was completely ripped up.

🎧 In this episode, we relive a two-day Grand Final that will be talked about for years:

Cougars CC - perennial high finishers in the Wyalkatchem Cricket Association🆚 West Yorkrakine CC - a proud club celebrating 100 years, chasing a premiership after a long drought.

How this match unfolded is truly something special and well worth a listen. We also recap other nail-biting Grand Finals from across the Wheatbelt Region.
