🩵June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month 🩵
As a club, we want to recognise and celebrate all the incredible men who have been part of our community — past and present. From players, coaches, and volunteers to supporters, family members, and mates on the sidelines, your contribution helps make our club what it is today.
This weekend, alongside Indigenous Round, we also want to shine a light on something that impacts far too many men across Australia: mental health
Footy clubs are more than just a place to train and play. They are places where friendships are built, support networks are formed, and people come together through both the highs and the lows. That sense of connection can make a real difference.
Some important statistics remind us why these conversations matter:
• Nearly 1 in 5 Australian men experience a mental illness each year.
• In Australia, around 75% of all su***de deaths are men, with more than 2,400 Australian men losing their lives to su***de in 2023.
• Su***de remains the leading cause of death for Australian men aged 15–44 years.
• Research continues to show that men are less likely to seek support when they’re struggling, often due to stigma, pressure to “be strong,” or fear of burdening others.
Behind every statistic is a teammate, a brother, a son, a father, a partner, or a mate.
This weekend, we encourage everyone to check in with those around them. A simple conversation, a message, or asking “How are you really going?” can have a bigger impact than you realise.
Strength isn’t about carrying everything on your own. Strength is knowing when to reach out, when to listen, and when to support the people around you.
This Saturday, all of you amazing men will be able to pay $5 for a sausage snag 🌭 and a bevy 🍻 of your choice!
Look after yourselves. Look after your mates. We’re a club, a community, and a family - on and off the field. 💙
