11 years ago today I became a mum for the first time. Looking back, there’s so much I wish I’d known.
I genuinely thought postnatal pelvic floor and core rehab was only for women who had experienced birth injuries or trauma. I didn’t realise it was something every body benefits from after pregnancy.
I assumed that if someone was running mums and bubs classes, they were qualified to guide postnatal women safely. Unfortunately, this is still not the case- not all trainers have the right education for coaching pre and post natal women (always look for a MumSafe Trainer)
I took my 6-week GP check as a full green light to get straight back into exercise, without really understanding what my body had been through or what it actually needed.
I thought I’d be the same person, just with a baby added in. Same capacity, same energy, same everything. And I really believed I should be able to do it all on my own.
If I was doing it again for the first time, I’d slow things down. I’d get proper support early. I’d focus on rebuilding, not bouncing back. And I’d surround myself with people who actually understand postnatal bodies, not just general fitness. And that is what I want Strong Mums to offer the women who chose to work with me.
If you’re in that season right now, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
