Based on the current data 75-80% of our Australian population is magnesium deficient. If you exercise intensely and eat a standard Australian diet then there is a 95% chance you are deficient. There are many ways to increase magnesium and some of our go to’s are to eat almonds, pumpkin seeds, spinach, cashews, peanut butter or use a Wholefood based supplement. Being winter it is also the perfect time to soak in a hot magnesium bath. Make sure you use magnesium citrate flakes as they are much more readily absorbed through the skin. Happy soaking!

On Monday we spent the morning with Subiaco After School and Vacation Care. The kids enjoyed experiencing and experimenting with the unique and exciting taste of native Australian superfoods through simple and delicious bush tucker inspired recipes. The kids made cookies and flavored their fruit salads and yogurt using an array of dried bush fruit.

The session immersed all five senses.

Les also shared Aboriginal culture and his personal experiences, played the didjeridoo and engaged the kids in movement by playing traditional games. It was a fantastic morning!

Get your hands on some Samphire. This native succulent can be a delicious and nutritious addition to your regular diet. We love cooking this Samphire with fish 🍣 Its delicate saltiness makes it a perfect partner to fish - we particularly like it tossed in olive oil and lemon served with some crisp-skinned, grilled salmon 🤤

Are you a Perth based chef who wants to incorporate more Australian Native Edible plants into your dishes?🍴🧆

Look no further than WA Samphire 🥬

Also know as the Sea Asparagus, it is a delicious salty treat that’s high in vitamin A with a good source of calcium and iron. Samphire is a protected Native salt-tolerant succulent that plays a vital role in our coastal ecosystem.

The young, green shoots are crisp and crunchy in texture, similar to asparagus, giving a fresh, sea-salt burst of flavour. You can enjoy these raw, sautéed or quickly blanched and tossed with olive oil and lemon.

Best used in Summer when the succulent ‘leaves’ are pale green and aromatic, they are a great addition to seafood, salads, pesto, salsa or use as a garnish 🌿

For more info about sourcing fresh Australian Native produce like Samphire, please send us an email at [email protected].

Yesterday at Bunnings in Maddington we had the pleasure of showcasing how easy it is to incorporate native bush tucker into everyday foods.

Many customers were surprised at the variety of bush tucker available and how easy it is to grow and use in the kitchen. Many going away with a trolley full of Tucker Bush plants to grow at home 🌱

Thank you to Kylie, Emily and the team at Bunnings in Maddington for inviting us along. We look forward to presenting to your gardening club in the future.

Buy some. Grow it. Taste it.

Stay tuned for our next event!
