𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐇 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐆𝐔𝐄

Big weekend of YL action as our sides look to return to the winners column after dropping their games last weekend.

Our men had a bit of a stinker against Warrandyte and won't be underestimating this weekend's opponent in Altona.

The Gators sit just behind us in 7th as we try to hold onto a playoff spot and get a run on for the rest of the season.

They went down to Darebin last week while we were able to get them in our last meeting in April, 86-71.

Our women also lowered their colours last weekend to Bulleen but it was a competitive match.

Life doesn't get easier this weekend with Coburg coming off a big win against Sunbury. The Giants sit in 7th with our girls a few spots behind.

We've been good on the home floor this year so we'll look to start to turn our fortunes around tomorrow.

We had a very special chat on this morning with 𝑲𝒊𝒋𝒂𝒏𝒂 𝑴𝒄𝑪𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒏 joining Lu and Al ahead of her dad's memorial match tomorrow evening.

They chatted Al's legacy and what the game means to Kijana as well as the fortunes of the side heading into the downhill part of the season.

We're so pumped for this one we even busted out the classic Bandits wordmark for the logo this week 🥰

It's going to be a huge Saturday evening at the LJSC as we remember the great man 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏 𝑴𝒄𝑪𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒏 and celebrate his teammates from the 2001 SEABL East Conference Championship.

25 years down the track, let's see how those boys go at the bar!

While there will be plenty going on off the floor, we've got some killer action ready to roll 𝑶𝑵 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑪𝑶𝑼𝑹𝑻 ...

We take on Newcastle whose teams have had similar seasons to ours.

Their men sit 14th, just above us, with a 3-10 record while their women sit fifth (two rungs above us) with a 9-4 record.

The women's clash pits two of the MVP favourites in 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒒𝒖𝒆 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒔𝒐𝒏 and Nicole Munger.

Munger has won the award the past 3 years and is having another terrific season.

Our U has been bubbling along nicely and decided to explode on the weekend with a 38-point outing against Hills. This should be a cracker!

Our men are coming off a win and spirits will be high. We'll look to the good play from our backcourt of 𝑳𝒐𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒆 and 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔 to help set up the game.

𝑲𝑩's match-up with Newy's Mandrell Worthy will have a big say in the result.

𝟐𝟓 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒 𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄 ...

We celebrate our 2001 title-winning team this weekend when we take on Newcastle at the LSJC.

It was an improbable victory - the struggling-to-stay alive Bandits taking down the powerhouse Frankston Blues in a come-from-behind final in front of 1500 adoring fans.

With just a touch over 7 minutes left in the game, the Blues were up 79-73, the sluggish hometown men seemingly unable to claw back in front.

A 𝑳𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒉 𝑮𝒐𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 timeout, in which barely a word could be heard over the screaming crowd, set the tone for what happened next.

Beginning with a 𝑹𝒖𝒔𝒔 𝑯𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 putback, our boys were away and never looked back, rolling over the shell-shocked Blues in incredible fashion, scoring 27-8 to take out the title, 100-87.

𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏 𝑴𝒄𝑪𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒏 - who we will also honour on Saturday in his Memorial Match - was our top-man on the night with 29 points and 12 boards while 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒕 𝑺𝒉𝒆𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒏 was named Grand Final MVP for his 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assist night.

We are throwing it back to 2001 this week and a big reason for that success that season was 𝑴𝒓 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏 𝑴𝒄𝑪𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒏.

Al's Memorial Game is this weekend, coinciding with the 2001 title reunion. It's a massive night and one that allows us to remember the on court exploits of one of our biggest ever stars.

It was so great to see our guys get another hard-fought win on Sunday and we might not have got it done without the cool hand of 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒐𝒌.

After equal-top scoring with KB the night before with 18 points, CC helped put us in a position to take down the Hornets on Sunday.

And when the game tightened right up in the final term, it was our guy Chris hitting a big three and finishing tough at the rim.

So Christian gets another nod for Player of the Week and we can't wait to see what he does for the rest of the season.

𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟏

We put the call out for pics from that fateful night in 2001 where we took the SEABL East title in a come-from-behind win against Frankston.

Colleen Morgan sent us the game night program from that evening, signed by all the players while current head coach (and assistant that night) Harry Morgan sent through some of the celebrations.

We'll have some more pics from the grand final tomorrow.

Bang. You knew it was coming.

Our girl 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒒𝒖𝒆 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒔𝒐𝒏 just had 𝑨 𝑾𝑬𝑬𝑲𝑬𝑵𝑫 in Sydney.

Earlier today she was named Player of the Week and we concur - she's also our .hotels POTW for doing what U does best.

On Saturday, despite our tough loss to the excellent Manly, U battled and posted 23 points, 13 rebounds and 3 steals.

On Sunday morning, we saw a Unique Thompson that should have the league worried as he head into the second half of the season.

With a dazzling array of moves and shots (check the pic for the stunning step-back), U posted a season best 38 points, nabbed 13 rebounds and nicked the ball 4 times. Efficiency at 45!

Man, we love watching Unique play and so should you! We're home this week and it's a big one against Newcastle with our 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏 𝑴𝒄𝑪𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑮𝒂𝒎𝒆 and the 25th anniversary of the 2001 men's title.
