WHEN THINGS DONT GO TO PLAN☁️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Zac and I went down south for a few days last week. Unfortunately I was sick for more than half of it🙄 but it was still such a great time away!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In life we’re gonna have things that don’t go our way. Like planning a holiday and then being sick the whole time. Or failing an assignment you put heaps of effort into. Or COVID ruining your gap year. Or breaking your wrists at the start of a two week snowboarding trip….🙃
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know that I’ve had my fair share of sh*t things happen, and I’m sure a lot of you can relate. But we are all capable of coping with anything. No matter what our brain tells us.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If things don’t go to plan, the first thing you need to do is reframe your thinking and how you’re looking at the situation. When I was sick last week, I was in a bad mood because I felt like the whole trip was ruined. But then I tried to remind myself that I was still down south and could enjoy a few days off. There is always one or more positive to a situation! So start looking out for it🌈
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The other thing to do is reach out to friends or loved ones and talk to them about your feelings towards a situation. They may be able to help support you through it, give you advice or distract you from your negative thoughts.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You got this💪 If you couldn’t handle what life throws at you, you wouldn’t be here in the first place.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if you’re really struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out💞

COMPARISON👥
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is so hard to be happy with our lives when we are constantly comparing…
🔸our bodies
🔸our skills
🔸our careers or businesses
🔸our relationships
🔸our fitness
🔸our income
🔸our interests
🔸our routines
….with other people’s🦋
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Others might have successes that you wish were yours. You might think you should be at a certain stage in your life because your friends are.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You could do the exact same routine and work the same job and do the same workouts as someone else and your life would still be so different.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We were not made to be the same as each other. We are unique and that is what makes us loveable❄️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So start celebrating the successes of others while also celebrating your own. Don’t pick yourself apart because you don’t look the way someone else does. Enjoy the journey that YOU are on. It is made for you🏆

SIGNS YOU MAY BE IN A STATE OF DEPRESSION & WHAT TO DO⛅️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lately I’ve been in a state of depression, and this evening was very much a low evening. Here are some of the things I’ve been experiencing:
🔹Always tired and/or fatigued, napping frequently.
🔹Loss of interest in things I normally love to do like exercising.
🔹Large mood swings.
🔹Hard to find the motivation to do things, especially socialising.
🔹Difficulty concentrating, easily distracted.
🔹Increased anxiety.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some other signs/symptoms may include:
🔹Irritability.
🔹Disturbances in sleep.
🔹Changes in appetite.
🔹Feelings of hopelessness.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If anyone has experienced depression, you know how horrible it is and how hard it is to get out of the slump. But here are a few things that may help:
🔸Tell someone (parents, friends, loved ones) how you’re feeling.
🔸See your GP. They may be able to refer to you a psychiatrist and/or psychologist.
🔸Watch a movie/TV show that makes you happy.
🔸Spend time with your pet if you have one - pets are amazing therapy.
🔸Listen to upbeat music.
🔸Spend time in the sunshine.
🔸Reduce/limit alcohol intake.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is a lot easier said than done to get out of a depressive state, but with the right support, it certainly can be done💛

Su***de is the leading cause of death for people aged 15-24. And in 2019, 480 young Australians aged 5-24 years old died by su***de.

Mental Health Week starts next week on October 9th. From the 9th to 17th of October, I will be walking 50km😅 to raise money for Youth Focus to help them continue delivering their many life-changing services.

Feel free to join my team and walk with me to help make a difference. Alternatively, any share and donation would be greatly appreciated❤️

Please support my walk in Mental Health Week to support youth mental health and su***de prevention.

MENTAL HEALTH REMINDER🔅
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you have a mental illness or struggle with your mental health, it is important to be aware of the signs or symptoms that indicate you may need to look after yourself a bit more.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have been struggling over the past few weeks with my anxiety. I have not been as social as I’d like to be, particularly not attending events at the last minute due to feeling overwhelmed, even if it’s people I’m close with. I am a lot more tired than normal and therefore taking lots of naps. I am finding it really hard to work up the energy and motivation to do any form of exercise (which isn’t like me at all). I am getting dates and times and appointments confused. I am just overall in a bit of a slump🐌
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you ever start feeling this way, here are 3 things to do:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣Try to celebrate the small wins. For me, I celebrate things like not going back to bed after running a bootcamp, going for a 20 minute walk or doing my pre-class work for uni🏆
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣Don’t beat yourself up if you need a nap or need to have multiple rest days in a row. I had a 5 hour nap on Saturday (not really a nap if it’s that long but oh well)! I felt annoyed because I didn’t get the things done that I wanted to, but I told myself that I obviously needed it! If you feel like you need to sleep more or rest more, it is a sign from your body. Our body is pretty smart at telling us what it needs, so we should start listening to it more🧠
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣Finally, reach out and tell someone. I am the first to say I struggle with this and tend to always put on a brave face, but we need to admit when we aren’t okay and need some help. I am going to see a psychologist which is something I have always been hesitant to do, but I know that I need to do it. You do not need to go through this battle on your own. Sharing a bit of the load will make you feel so much better🙌
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When you experience these slumps, your best might look different to your usual best. But that is okay! It is still your best at the time! Be kind to yourself💖
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is me after managing to do a workout the other night - a win for me💁‍♀️

FOOD FEARS & GUILT❌
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Get ready for a long but important message!👇🙊
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who has ever felt or still does feel like food is the enemy? 🙋‍♀️🤦‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▪️What is food fear?
Avoiding or cutting out foods due to a fear related to it, generally a fear that it will cause weight gain.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▪️What is food guilt?
Physical or mental discomfort after consuming a certain food. Sometimes leads to compensatory behaviours such as excessive exercise or food restriction.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Food fear and guilt is caused by fictional beliefs we have around foods (and drinks) that emerge from what we see or hear on social media and from other people. Who’s heard that “carbs are bad” or “don’t eat past 6pm”? I certainly have, along with many more ridiculous ones!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It can be so hard to deal with food fears and guilt, but here are a few tips to try help:
🔹Start seeing food as fuel. Just like a car needs fuel to function, we need food to function. It’ll help you smash out your workout or even just do your assignment. Food is crucial on both our active and rest days!
🔹Food is neutral. This means foods are not “good” or “bad”. Some foods have a more nutrient dense make up than others meaning they have more things in them that are beneficial to our body. But at the end of the day, food is food.
🔹Try to sit with any discomfort. Distract yourself if you need or put a heat pack on your stomach. The discomfort should pass soon enough.
🔹Start noticing and questioning your thoughts. If you notice a thought that says “I shouldn’t eat bread”, ask yourself “why?”. What are the facts!? Generally these thoughts are BS!
🔹Don’t put any foods off limits. Like with anything, if you can’t have it, you will want it more. Rather than cutting out chocolate completely and then falling into a binge-purge/restrict cycle, allow yourself to have little bits. The less power you give a food, the less it controls you!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Food is such an important and fun part of life. Start learning to enjoy it because life sucks when you cut out pizza and icecream!

From September 1st to December 31st, your participation in Move With Abs training sessions will help support zero2hero and OzHarvest WA.

As you know, zero2hero is not-for-profit organisation very close to my heart. They run a range of different program that aim to educate and empower young people to become mental health ambassadors in their communities. There have been over 1,000 students in WA who have been on zero2hero’s Camp Hero program and have now got the skills to help save a life. zero2hero relies on donations to continue offering these programs, which is why I have chosen them as one of the organisations.

Having food is a basic human right, but there are way too many people in our own state who cannot afford food for themselves or their families. This is unacceptable in any place, let alone a first world country. OzHarvest delivers meals, around 80,000 each week, to charity agencies and individuals in need. Donations raised will help contribute to meal delivery, with $25 helping deliver 50 meals.

As the weather warms up, come and join in some Move With Abs sessions and get your sweat on, all while contributing to a great cause💛

KINDNESS (to yourself)💓
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who experiences negative self-talk? 🙋‍♀️I definitely do! I constantly beat myself up if I make a mistake, I doubt my ability to succeed, and I criticise the way I look.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are so kind to other people, but we are always so critical and mean to ourselves!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Stop bullying yourself and start celebrating your achievements! No matter how big or small they are. And your achievements might look very different to other people’s achievements which is normal! For me, getting at least 7 hours of sleep each night a week is an achievement. So is not binging and purging, or going to every uni class in the week. For other people this might just be something that doesn’t even phase them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Be proud of yourself and stop comparing yourself to other people (I cannot stress this second point enough)! Just because people are doing well and achieving things, doesn’t mean you aren’t either! Just because someone else is achieving what you want to achieve, doesn’t mean you won’t get there! Life is not a race, it’s a journey🗺Take your time and appreciate the lessons along the way. It may take a bit longer for you to reach your goal, and that is completely okay! That just means it’ll be even more worth it when you get there💪
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And seriously, don’t focus on anyone else but yourself! We are all on our own journey and we’ll enjoy the journey a lot more if we focus on the path in front of our own feet, not the path in front of someone else👣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don’t know if this even flows or makes sense but I hope you get the gist 🧚
