Saco-Vertiz Jiu-jitsu I started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Peru when I was 20, and it quickly became a big part of my life.

Over the years, I’ve trained and competed across Peru and Australia, learning from many great teachers and people along the way. Now living in Dungog, I’m focused on sharing what Jiu-Jitsu has given me — confidence, discipline, and community — and helping others start their own journey on the mats.

Great rounds at our Open Mat this weekend.

Huge thank you to everyone who made the trip and brought great energy to the mats.

We had legends from Hunter Valley Jiu Jitsu and Newcastle Karate BJJ join us, along with our local crew. Good people, solid rolls, and exactly the kind of culture we want to build.

Also, Sunday’s charity open mat at Flux in Newcastle was something special. More than 70 practitioners, from white to black belt, came together to support a member of our community in need. That’s what Jiu-Jitsu is really about.

Grateful to be part of this community.

Dungog, we're opening up the mats. Whether you’re a local or coming from out of town, everyone is welcome to get some rounds in.

The Details:

📍 Where: SVZ BJJ (Dungog Showground)

🕙 Time: 10:00 AM

🥋 Format: Gi and No-Gi rounds. All skill levels/affiliations welcome.

Make a Trip of it:

If you’re driving in, bring the bike or the camping gear. We are located right in the Dungog Showground with on-site camping available. The Dungog Common pump track and MTB trails are just down the road if you want to hit the dirt after the mats.

Come for the rolls, stay for the town.

SVZ BJJ – Competition Day 🥋

On Sunday we had 4 kids and 1 adult step on the mats and represent SVZ BJJ.

Every single one of them showed courage; win, lose or draw. Competition isn’t about medals, it’s about putting yourself out there, managing nerves, and learning where your jiu-jitsu really is.

Huge respect to the kids who fought hard, listened, and kept going even when things didn’t go their way.

Proud of the wars, the wins, and the lessons taken.

Special shout-out to Callum, who stepped up to help with the kids all day, then competed in his first competition, had some absolute wars, and took third place.
That’s what team culture looks like.

It’s great to see kids from a small town getting involved, challenging themselves, and growing through sport.

This is just the beginning. We keep training, we keep learning, and we keep showing up.
