I ramped up the boys PE session this week.

"A" was introduced to the HONU Sorrento 11ft 3 x 30, longer and narrower than he has paddled before plus the HONU Element Junior paddle. Boy, this lad, from prefering knee paddling previously to standing most of this session was so good to watch. "A" has really knuckled down recently & is working so hard on the technical aspects of stand up paddleboarding [SUP]๐Ÿคฉ

"H" was on the LOCO Amigo Air, 12ft 6 x 27, one of my race boards. "H" rode this board back in the Summer in very different conditions. This time, he was paddling using the Black Project TempoX paddle, in very challenging conditions. Both pieces of equipment are very different from the regular school boards & paddles. After a few wobbles from the side swiping wind, he was off and paddling like a pro ๐Ÿคฉ

I am SUPer proud of them both. Their dedication to attend weekly sessions, even through Winter, is admirable ๐Ÿ’™

"H" had an accidental dip in the water, which led us nicely into their homework; understanding cold water shock, how it effects the body and for "H" how he felt during & after taking a quick plunge into cooler water ๐Ÿฅถ

I look forward to reading their homework submissions ๐Ÿ“„

These sessions cover so much more than SUP and the technical elements. If you have home schooled kids who would benefit from joining us drop me a PM, email [email protected] or alternatively give me a call on 0458 164 138 to discuss options.

I look forward to hearing from you ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to use your stand up paddleboard [SUP] for racing purposes?

Yes, SUP racing is a "thing" and a great way to get & stay fit & have fun.

People have different reasons for wanting to learn to stand up paddleboard (SUP), whether itโ€™s to get into shape, spend time with others, experience nature and explore new places or meet a community of fellow SUPers who are equally passionate about the sport.

Getting hooked on SUP racing can help you get fit, meet new people and improve your overall health, racing is challenging and is a constant opportunity to learn.

For me, training & competing in SUP races has been a great way to maintain a positive mental attitude along with gaining strength & endurance fitness. SUP racing requires all the elements of a good fitness routine without the necessity to enter a gym however, functional training like Fitstop Biloela Boot Camp helps to build a solid foundation of strength, mobility and stamina.

Today, was a full on training day for an Paddle Queensland event, the Marathon Championships in two weeks time on Lake Samsonvale, nr Brisbane. My morning started at Fitstop Boot Camp, home for breakfast then out to the Dam to complete 3 x 5km out n backs within 45 minutes each round. It's not easy training alone, not only is it physically demanding but mentally too. That third round took some completing especially in the gusty side wind.

It takes a bit of time to become fit enough to paddle these distances, but with time, dedication and the wish to challenge yourself, it can be done.

Iโ€™d love to get others involved in SUP fitness / race training with an interest to competing, itโ€™s a fantastic way to get fitter, stronger and faster, lifting your spirits whilst enjoying the great outdoors.

Interested in racing or just getting fit on the water? Then drop me a PM, email [email protected], or give me a call on 0458 164 138 to discuss options.

I look forward to hearing from you ๐Ÿ’™

Did you know that this amazing paddle from Oscar Propulsion is travelling far and wide across the globe & is now available in here in Australia ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ

In the words of the designer -

Most paddlers accept shoulder fatigue, elbow strain, and a heavy catch as โ€œpart of the sport.โ€ But what if it doesnโ€™t have to be?

What if the problem isnโ€™t your technique or your fitness but the way traditional paddles load the stroke?

FLOWFORCEโ„ข was designed to change that.

Instead of hitting your body with a heavy load at the catch, FLOWFORCE creates a smoother, more controlled interaction with the water, reducing strain on your shoulders, elbows, and wrists from the very first stroke.

The result is simple, but powerful:

โœ” a smoother, easier catch
โœ” a more stable, controlled stroke
โœ” less fatigue over distance
โœ” the ability to paddle further, more comfortably

WITHOUT SACRIFICING PERFORMANCE!.

This isnโ€™t about paddling harder. Itโ€™s about paddling longer, with less strain on your body.

FLOWFORCE is part of a new approach to paddling, one that prioritises efficiency, comfort, and longevity on the water. Learn more about the FLOWFORCE tech here: https://oscarpropulsion.com/sport/

If you would like to try before you buy, give me a shout. I can assure you, you won't be disappointed. Available in one & two piece atm.

Thank you Brett & Julie S from for the promotional video ๐Ÿ’™

SUPer proud of the kids this week, they worked so hard in the gusty wind.

Given the conditions it was appropriate for us to get back to basics. Our session was learning about which of the bigger muscles groups we use for paddling and how best to use them.

We carried out some core specific, hip & glute activation warm up exercises before hitting the water with a plank hold challenge at the end before the rain came. I'm happy to say the oldest & the youngest held the plank the longest, & both girls ๐Ÿ˜…

Big shout out to Arden, he was so supportive towards our new paddler Will, encouraging him throughout the lesson ๐Ÿคฉ

It is so good hearing them all chattering about all things SUP, shows they're , & learning to with others ๐Ÿ˜€

If you have home schooled children who would like to join us at these sessions or have youngsters who'd benefit from coming along to our Kids SUP Club then why don't you get in touch?

Either PM, email [email protected], or alternatively give me a call on 0458 164 138 to discuss options

I look forward to hearing from you ๐Ÿ’™

It may have been blowing over 12knots and raining, but that didn't stop "H" from showing off his SUP gymnastics to the new recruits ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

I think he was pretty brave bearing in mind he could have ended up in the drink, but then again he did wait until the end of the session ๐Ÿคฃ

It maybe Winter but it's not stopping us from enjoying time on the water ๐Ÿ’ง

If you or your kids would like to join us, drop me a PM, email [email protected], or alternatively call 0458 164 138 to discuss your options.

I look forward to hearing from you ๐Ÿ’™

When does it get too cold for Stand up Paddleboarding (SUP)?

The answer is โ€œitโ€™s never too cold, the cooler months are a great time to SUPโ€.

Why?

- the winds are lighter
- stunningly beautiful blue skies
- the water is generally calmer giving glass like conditions
- the temperatures are not so high, so youโ€™re not feeling the effects of heat exhaustion
- your day does not need to start quite so early
- there is a reduced risk of sunburn
- our sunny wintery days have amazing sunrises and sunsets
- we get the odd morning with an atmospheric mist hovering over the water.

SUP literally is a sport that can be enjoyed all year round as the art of SUP is predominantly a โ€œcoreโ€ activity which means, because itโ€™s a self-powered sport, you generate a lot of your own body heat just to keep yourself and your board moving along!

The winter months often has many people stuck inside, where it is known that they become more tired, less energetic, more complacent and some people really do suffer quite badly from those winter blues, SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Getting out on the water regularly throughout the cooler months helps diminish those mental and physical woes, awakens our bodies and replenished our minds in a way that simply feels extraordinary and invigorating

So, itโ€™s with firsthand experience I can share with you that our Queensland winters are perfectly SUPable and despite the cooler temperatures thereโ€™s a lot you can do to ensure you maintain your SUP addiction, even on the coolest of days over the next few months, but thatโ€™s for another post.

So come, get yourselves into the , beat those and get at the same time ๐Ÿ˜€

If you are interested in any aspect of SUP please drop me a PM, or email me at [email protected], alternatively give me a call on 0458 164 138 to discuss your options.

I look forward to hearing from you ๐Ÿ’™

SUPer happy to have passed the re-accreditation process as an ASI Academy of Surfing Instructors Technical Coach and Level 2 [exposed waters] Instructor ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks to everyone involved for the opportunity to instruct/coach in a level 2 environment ๐ŸŒŠ

I love the Technical aspect of my work; remember you can send me your videos for analysis where I can break down your paddle stroke & offer ways in which to improve your technique, increase strength & power & eliminate injury.

A huge thanks too, to all my wonderful SUPers who I've had the pleasure of teaching throughout this last year. I hope to see you all again, soon ๐Ÿ˜Š

For now, I just need to continue building my SUP attendance numbers ๐Ÿ’™
