🔥 DOVER DEVILS WOMEN DEF. CLARENCE ZEBRAS 5–2 🔥
📍 Wentworth Park
📅 17 May 2026
Dover Devils Women continued their impressive rise up the ladder on Sunday with a commanding 5–2 victory over Clarence Zebras at Wentworth Park on 17 May.
Played under cloudy, overcast skies and humid conditions, the match began with the Zebras coming out strong and finding an early goal. The Devils quickly settled into the contest, with Demi Batchelder leveling the scores after some determined attacking pressure.
Freja O’Brien came close to putting Dover ahead soon after, unleashing a powerful strike that rattled the top post, before Nico Dowding followed up to score and give the Devils a 2–1 lead heading into halftime.
The second half saw Dover lift another gear, with captain Alanah Grubb finding the net early before Demi Batchelder added her second goal of the day with a classy finish. Freja O’Brien was rewarded for her strong performance shortly after, placing a lovely ball into the bottom corner to extend the lead to 5–1. As the pressure from the Devils continued to build, the match became increasingly physical, with several hard challenges, late tackles, and some contentious referee decisions adding further intensity to the contest.
Despite a late consolation goal from Clarence, the Devils held firm to finish deserved 5–2 winners.
The Dover Devils are quickly proving to be the underdogs of the social league. After starting the season low on the ladder due to short numbers, the side has continued to grow in confidence and consistency, regularly matching it with some of the competition’s bigger clubs. Their recent form is cementing their place near the top of the ladder and showing they are serious contenders this season.
A special mention goes to Asha Buchanan, who stepped into the goalkeeper role for Dover and delivered an outstanding performance, making several impressive saves and reading the play exceptionally well. Her efforts earned her second best on field as voted by teammates and coach.
Player of the Week was awarded to Casey Bryant, whose continued development has been a highlight for the Devils this season. Holding strong at left back, Casey consistently pressured the ball and shut down multiple Clarence attacking attempts, playing a key role in keeping the Zebras away from goal.
Coach Graham Massey praised the side after the match, saying, “Great team performance from everyone today… coming back from the early goal (again) and dominating the match… ‘Classic Devils’.”
With another strong performance on the board, the Dover Devils continue to build momentum and belief as the season progresses. What began as a challenging start with limited numbers has transformed into a determined and competitive squad capable of taking on the league’s strongest sides. If their current form continues, the Devils will not just be the competition’s underdogs — they will be genuine title contenders.
