Trainer Stu’s favourite workout is the Bill Starr 5x5 program
Bill Starr may be a bit of a throwback, but his influence in widespread. Starr was an Olympic weightlifter in the 1960s, becoming a prolific strength coach, author of several successful programs, and writer for numerous publications.

There have been a number of variations of the 5x5 program that have been surface over the years but the basic program was centred around 3 lifts – Squat, Bench Press and Power Clean – and 3 different intensity schemes (low, medium, high), over 3 days, using 5 set x 5 reps for each exercise.

Stu’s favourite way to approach his week involved 3 days of strength training, focusing of 3-5 lifts in each session applying the 5x5 method. It is an effective way to keep the session simple and time effective.

Forge is a small and safe space where you can bring your baby with you to training. We allow this flexibility so that you can focus on your health and fitness needs which often get neglected due to caring for your little ones.
