Female Football Week is a national initiative that celebrates the incredible growth of the women’s game while recognising the players, coaches, referees, administrators and volunteers who make football possible.

At the Dorrigo Highlanders Football Club, we are proud to celebrate not only our female players, but also the amazing women behind the scenes who keep our club running week in and week out. From our coaches and managers, to our canteen coordinators, committee members and volunteers — your dedication does not go unnoticed.

A special thank you also goes to all the mums and female supporters who are always there remembering the boots, washing the muddy jerseys, organising the chaos and cheering the loudest from the sidelines. Our club simply would not be what it is without you.

Thank you for everything you do for our players, our teams and our football community. 💜⚽

⚽️⚽️ WEEKEND MATCH REPORT – 9TH MAY 2026 ⚽️⚽️

Another huge weekend for the Highlanders with teams travelling far and wide and some strong performances across the club.

Thursday Night

Unfortunately there was no match for our Blackbutts on Thursday night, with Corindi forced to forfeit due to injury and travel issues. We wish their players a speedy recovery and look forward to meeting them later at home in the season.

Saturday

Our U9 Quolls headed to Scotts Head on Saturday morning. With fantastic weather and smiling faces all around, the team continues to improve every week. It has been great seeing the players support each other, build confidence and most importantly have fun.

The U11 Sugar Gliders travelled to Polsworth Drive and are really starting to come into their own this season. The girls are loving their football and it has been fantastic watching their skills and teamwork continue to develop each week.

Our U13 Wallabies kicked off the weekend at the Rec Grounds. The boys are continuing to learn more every game as they find their footing this season and their improvement has been noticeable week after week.

The U14 Blue Gums hosted Urunga at home and put together a fantastic performance. Chelsea found the back of the net twice while Harper also added a goal in a dominant first half. The girls defended strongly in the second half to keep a clean sheet and secure a 3-0 victory.

The Div 2 Cedars Women took on Coffs United Lions in a very close contest. The team worked hard in both attack and defence all game. Congratulations to Matilda and Sienna who both scored, with the girls narrowly going down 3-2 in a hard-fought match.

Our men’s side faced a very tough challenge with a number of players unavailable, eventually going down 6-0 to a very sharp Woopi outfit who took their chances well throughout the game. Despite the scoreline, the team never stopped competing and showed great determination playing big minutes right until full time. Thank you to Linsay, Anna and Lilly from the Women's teams for helping out to provide the team with valuable. Big shout outs to Stevie for some great saves keeping the scoreline what it was. Massive efforts put in by Lindsey C and Anna for stepping up and playing injured, Andrew for making the effort to come straight from the Airport to take to the field. Bryce, Rob, Kul and Ben never stopped working hard in defence.

A very special thank you also goes to the Rangers Rugby Club for a fantastic day of sport at home and for their support and assistance with sharing the change rooms.

We’re still on the lookout for more players to join our Div 2 Women Cedars team!

Are you 15 or older and thinking about giving soccer a go? Or maybe it’s been a while and you’re keen to lace up the boots again? Now’s the perfect time 🙌

Our team is a fantastic group of women who come together each Saturday for a run around, a laugh, and to enjoy the game in a supportive environment.

Don’t let the “Div 2” title put you off — plenty of players across our team (and the league) are new to the game and still learning the rules and skills. Everyone starts somewhere, and you’ll be supported every step of the way 💚💛

⚽ WEEKEND MATCH REPORT ⚽

This weekend marked the first round for our non-competitive teams, with plenty of great football across all age groups.

Thursday Night

The Blackbutts travelled to Urunga to take on the Raiders and delivered a dominant performance. Strong defence and excellent teamwork kept Urunga scoreless, with the Blackbutts running out convincing 6–0 winners. Impressively, the ladies are yet to concede a goal this season—proving they are just as strong at the back as they are in attack.

Saturday

Our U9 Quolls and U11 Sugar Gliders kicked things off at home, with both teams showing fantastic improvement. It’s great to see them putting their training into action—working together, supporting each other, and most importantly, enjoying their football.

The U13 boys travelled to Polsworth Drive to face the Coffs Tigers. Many players new to the game, the team continues to grow each week, showing determination and strong team spirit. With a lot of close shots on goal they worked well together to score their first of the season. A big shoutout to coach Lisa for her ongoing efforts in developing the squad.

The U14 Girls Blue Gums played a tight match against Sawtell, holding them scoreless through the first half in a strong defensive display. The girls are working really well together as a team under the guidance of their coach Linsay.

Also at Polsworth Drive, the Div 2 Women Cedars faced the Coffs Tigers in a hard-fought contest. The team played well but narrowly went down 3–1. A big thank you to Phoebe from the Blue Gums for stepping up to support the side.

Rounding out the day, the Div 3 Highlanders travelled to Nambucca and came away with a 1–1 draw in an evenly matched game. The men held their own against a Nambucca side heavily supported by their Div 2 players.

Great effort across all teams this weekend—plenty to build on as the season continues! As Female Football Week continues keep your eye out for our home fixtures this weekend! 💚⚽

🏃🏼‍♀️⚽️FEMALE FOOTBALL WEEK 2026 ⚽️🏃🏼‍♀️

Today marks the kick off of Female Football Week! At the Dorrigo Highlanders we are incredible proud that 50% of our teams from juniors through to masters are female teams! We also have an awesome number of girls in our mini Roos and u9 teams!

As a club it is important to promote and support female participation in sport! Not only do we have high female participation numbers but we are so incredibly grateful that 6 of our 7 coaches across the club are women! Once again proving there is nothing women can’t do! 💪🏻

We also thank all of the amazing women who run our canteen and support our club on our committee and in many other ways!

Just a small glimpse of the magic that came from our U11 girls first match of the season today!
