WKRC November Club Day race report
November 29th saw the running of Wimmera Kart Racing Club’s eighth club day of the year.
WKRC couldn’t have been luckier with the weather for the last Club Day of the year. Soaking rain overnight removed much of the dust from the circuit and by the time practice started the circuit was almost dry.
The senior two stroke group welcomed Tim Taylor back after an absence from the scene. By the end of the day he was back in a rhythm until a broken chain took him out in the final.
Phil Hobbs won the final convincingly from Jackson Ohayon who was closely followed by Ben Derby and then Jason Ohayon. Phil didn’t have it all his way throughout the day with Ben and Jackson each winning a heat.
4SS Senior saw some great racing. Jacob Bond and Tim Taylor battled for the day. Swapping positions throughout the heats and the final. The heats saw Jacob with the win in heat one and then Tim took the honours for heats two, three and four. Heat two saw Anthony Taylor the closest he was all day with a close third. Over the line the first three were separated by three tenths in the best race of the day.
Jeremy Bond running in 4SS Heavy finished the heats not far behind the first three and wasn’t able to repeat the great form he displayed at the recent Vic 4SS title at Ballarat.
In the final Jacob took the honours after passing Tim on lap fourteen of the eighteen lap final.
KA3 Junior saw Jagger Smith in his second appearance since moving up from Cadets. Jagger ran around by himself and showed clear improvements with good racing lines and consistent times. KA3 Junior visitors in 2026 will find some good competition available from our resident KA3 Junior.
Xander Warrick withdrew from racing Cadet 9 so that he could participate in Social Karting and do some laps with Aston Brooksby. Aston didn’t get to finish the required eight Social Karting sessions in time to enable him to enter the November Club day. By the start of Club Day racing in 2026 he will be ready to go as he demonstrated all the skills and speed to be able to race. If Aston keeps developing the skills he showed on Saturday then Xander is going to have some stiff competition in 2026.
The WKRC Club Days are small but successful and this is due to hard work of many people.
A big thankyou to Paul Feely, Shane Souter, Ash Lear and Noel Hocking. Without the fantastic work of these officials we couldn’t have fun racing.
A big thanks also to Mel Hobbs, Rachel Paine and Sharon Warrick who have manned our First Aid room throughout the year.
We must also thank our canteen people for the great food they have provided officials and competitors during our events. We couldn’t have been any where near as well fed without the support of Claire Morgan, Sharon Warrick, Hayley Ohayon, Mel Hobbs, Rachel Paine and Sarah Scown-Cook.
There were other helpers that are not named here, who also helped in the canteen, mowed the grass, poisoned the weeds, cleaned the toilets, emptied the bins, painted lines, laid concrete, repaired circuit cracks and a multitude of other jobs. Thankyou everyone who has helped.
Finally a big thankyou to our members who turn up for our club days and have a lot of fun. It is a great help for those who are just starting out to have somewhere safe to develop their skills.
We look forward to another great year in 2026.
WKRC Committee.
