Senior Round 10 and Junior Round 6! 🌈

This weekend we proudly celebrate Pride Round across the Hockey Victoria comp and recognise the importance of creating a club where everyone feels welcome, valued and respected.

We’ve got a huge weekend of home games kicking off tonight with our juniors, continuing through Saturday and wrapping up on Sunday with our Premier League, women’s Pennant B and Metro sides all in action.

Get down to Pantherland, wear your yellow two blues, and show your support for our teams.

Weekly Wrap 💛🩵💙

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather and supported our home games this weekend, especially our Women’s Premier League side who finished the day very wet but with a fantastic 4–0 win, and our reserves on a 6-0 win!

A big welcome to our newest Dutchie, Mady, and congratulations to Hayden Mitchell on reaching 150 First XI games against Greensborough on Saturday. Huge achievement for Hayden and we are so glad to have him back in the Premier League Side this year and big welcome to Pantherland to Mady!

There were some great results across the club, including:

- Women’s Pennant D breaking their five-game losing streak with a 2–1 win.
- U14 Girls winning 2–1 against Waverley.
- U16 Shield Boys winning 3–2 against Waverley.
- Men’s Pennant B defeating PEGS 3–1.

Off the field, it was great to see teams getting together after games, with dinners, social events and the Premier League wig nights 😍

Congratulations also to Charlotte Dinnie, who has taken on the role of Women’s Premier League Reserves Assistant Coach alongside Darren Dalton.

Finally, don’t forget it’s Pride Round this weekend. Wear a splash of colour to training today! 🌈

Fresh off his 150th first XI game, this week’s Meet the Member Monday features Hayden Mitchell!

Hayden first got into hockey after watching the 2006 Commonwealth Games. His auntie played (and still plays) at Essendon, which inspired him to give the sport a go. He started playing in Year 8 at school on a grass field and, by the following year, was playing First XI hockey at Haileybury and club hockey at Casey.

Hayden moved to Mentone in 2013 after winning the State League 3 premiership with Casey. He was brought across by schoolmate Ryuun Fujihara, alongside Tony, CC and Lum after playing summer hockey together. That same year, Hayden made his Premier League debut. Now, after overcoming injury and a few years playing Open Masters and Thirds, he’s back at the top level again!

Over the years, Hayden has played alongside and been coached by some of the best at the club. His longest-serving teammates include Yam, Tak and Todd, while he also won premierships alongside Liam Alards and Brian Young dating back to his Casey days. His coaching influences include Todd Faulds, Henry Willis, Luke Michael, Court Mann, Josh Burt, Tak, Yam, Hayden and Waseem.

Hayden’s biggest hockey achievements definitely include the following premierships
Premierships as a Player - Metro (2011), State League 3 (2012) and Vic League 1 (2016)

Premierships as a Coach - U16 Premiership (2016) and U15 Pennant East Indoor Premiership (2016)

Looking ahead, Hayden’s main goal over the next five years is simple: to play hockey on the same days as his wife, Elly, and spend more time watching her games. Beyond that, he’s taking things one season at a time, staying fit, and continuing to contribute at Premier League level.

We’re excited to have Hayden back out on the field and can’t wait to see what comes next. Who will be next week’s Meet the Member Monday?

Weekly Wrap 💛🩵💙

We hope everyone enjoyed the King’s Birthday long weekend! While there were fewer games than normal, there was still plenty happening around Pantherland.

Our Premier League teams faced Hawthorn on Thursday, with the men unfortunately going down and the women earning a hard-fought draw. A big thank you to our Men’s and Women’s Reserves teams for stepping in as ball kids for the games. We also would love to congratulate again Jamie Zimmerman and Rachel Knowles on reaching their 50th First Grade games on Thursday! Was a great game to witness their milestone!

Also on Thursday Our Under 12 Girls embraced the rain at training with some fun team-bonding activities, while our Pennant teams enjoyed the Premier League action together over cheese toasties and donuts. We thank everyone for coming down to support our premier league teams in the rain! It was great to see everyone supporting the yellow two blues!

As Many of you will have already seen we would like to thank Lachlan Robinson (.photos) for the incredible photos from Thursday night. We’re so grateful for the time and effort Lachy puts into capturing the special moments around our club, and the results speak for themselves!

Finally, it’s our great pleasure to welcome Mady to Pantherland all the way from the Netherlands! We’re excited to have her wearing the yellow and two blues and can’t wait to see her make her debut this Saturday.

Good luck to all our Panthers this weekend! 💛🩵💙

This week’s Meet the Member is Denise Smith! 💛💙🩵

Denise started playing hockey at 13 after finally being allowed to swap netball for hockey at school. Since then, hockey has played a huge role in her life, including working for New Zealand Hockey before moving to Australia with her family.

Denise found Mentone through a connection with Josh Burt, who encouraged her to come down and check out the club. Three years later, she’s become a key part of the Mentone community.

Since joining, Denise has volunteered extensively at Mentone, serving as Women’s Coordinator for two years and now as On-Field Director on the Executive Committee.

Her hockey highlights include winning Gold at the 2017 World Masters Games, representing New Zealand Over 40s at the 2018 World Cup in Spain, and serving as Lead Contingent for New Zealand at the 2024 World Cup. She also played Premier League hockey in New Zealand for more than 10 seasons.

When asked about the most talented player at Mentone, Denise chose JJ, describing her as an exceptional player. She also loves playing alongside the club’s juniors and watching them grow and succeed.

Thanks, Denise, for all you do for Mentone Hockey Club!

Stay tuned for next week’s featured member!

Round 21 complete for our Premier League teams! 💛🩵💙

Both games were hard-fought battles, and we’re incredibly proud of the effort shown by our players.

A huge thank you to all our Panthers supporters who braved the rain and came down to cheer on the teams. Your support never goes unnoticed!

Enjoy the long weekend, and we’ll be back next week ready to go again. See you all then! 🐾🏑💪
