Wimmera Hockey Association - Round Five - Friday Evening

Two close matches hit off round five at Dimboola this evening, with Dimboola hosting Kaniva in both Under 16s and Women's divisions.

The Kaniva Raiders prevailed in a very even Under 16 game that was scoreless at half-time, and still tied at the last break after both teams scored once in the third quarter. A Kaniva goal in the last quarter, while preventing the Kangaroos from scoring again, gave them the victory.

This result sees the Raiders climb into the top four for the first time this season.

The Women’s game also started with some very even play in the first quarter, but the Dimboola Roos took control after quarter time with two goals by halftime. The play evened out again for the rest of the game, but the second quarter scoring was enough to earn the home team the win.

The action continues tomorrow with Horsham taking on Nhill and Warrack playing Yanac in the Under 16, Women’s, and Open competitions, and teams from all clubs will take part in the Development Program at 12.30 pm.

Wimmera Hockey Association – Round Four

Round four of the Wimmera Hockey Association season was played on a well-presented Anzac Park in Warracknabeal on Saturday, although the dewy conditions, particularly for the earlier matches, created a different challenge to the last round on the artificial turf at Dimboola.

- Under 16s -

The round opened with a high-scoring Under 16s match, which saw the Warrack Revengers score seven goals to earn a home-ground win by one goal over the Nhill Leopards.

The Yanac Warriors have leap-frogged the Dimboola Kangaroos into the top place on the ladder with a comfortable win over that opponent, and the Kaniva Raiders are on the verge of breaking into the top four after a hard-fought win over the Horsham Bombers.

- Women -

The match of the day was the meeting of the two undefeated teams in the Women’s competition, and after four quarters of intense hockey, both the Dimboola Roos and Yanac Women remain undefeated after playing out a 2-all draw. While they are locked together at the top of the ladder with the same points, the Roos hold the top spot with a superior percentage.

In another match that kept the spectators’ interest right up until the final whistle, Kaniva Women hold on for a one-goal victory over the Horsham Jets, and the Nhill Thunderbirds comfortably overcame Warracknabeal and have now moved back into fourth place on the ladder.

- Open -

The Kaniva Cobras earned a one-goal lead in the shadows of quarter time in their game against the Horsham Hurricanes, but did not have full control of their game until they scored a second goal midway through the last quarter.

The Warrack Hoops’ teamwork gave them the edge against the improving Nhill Rangers in a game that ended with a three-goal margin, and the Yanac Tigers had the bye but kept their hold on top spot on the ladder.

*** Full scores, match reports, and current ladders will appear in the local media during the week. ***

Wimmera Hockey Association - Round Two

After just two rounds, the Women’s division has a familiar look, with the top three teams from last season all recording victories today and remaining undefeated so far in 2026, but there are signs that change may be coming in the other two competitions.

The Dimboola Roos and Yanac both had comfortable victories over Warrack and the Horsham Jets, respectively, and, in a closer result, Kaniva overcame the Nhill Thunderbirds by three goals to two.

Perennial leaders in the Open competition, the Yanac Tigers, are in a familiar position at the top of the ladder after a solid win over the Horsham Hurricanes in the rematch of last year’s grand final, but below them, the Nhill Rangers continue to improve with another impressive performance to tie their match with the Kaniva Cobras, with both remaining in the top four. The Warrack Hoops had the bye.

A second consecutive victory by the Dimboola Kangaroos, on this occasion over the Warrack Revengers, has them in the unfamiliar place at the top of the ladder, although last year’s grand finalist Yanac Warriors is close behind them as they also remain undefeated after a win over the Horsham Bombers.

The Nhill Leopards had a narrow win over the Kaniva Raiders in the other Under 16 match.
