Suffering from a recent injury?

Initially a break from training may be necessary depending on the severity of the injury.

In saying this, ceasing exercise completely and becoming sedentary for too long after the initial injury can become counter productive for both the healing time of the injury site and your own mental state.

It’s important to stay active for both hormonal and psychological benefits that help support repair. If possible and safe to do so, train the unaffected areas of the body to prevent muscle atrophy. Be resourceful and find pain free ways to exercise.

It is known that training the unaffected parts of the body speeds up the healing process and recovery time of the injury. Training the opposite limb can also improve strength to the immobilised injured limb.

Lastly work closely with an allied health professional, then with someone who has the knowledge to help return you to exercise safely.

Feeling tightness in your quadriceps? Tightness in these muscles can be directly related to knee pain.

The quadriceps are a very common muscle group in most people to become overactive. This is due to the fact the average person spends many hours a day sitting causing tight hip flexors, this then leads to under active glutes.

When a muscle is not working as efficiently as it should due to weakness other muscles will compensate, in this case the quads. Compensation leads to poor mechanics, then to pain/injuries.

A great way to release the quads is with a foam roller!
▶️ Slowly scan for tight/tender spots, hold these spots until the pain subsides
▶️ Spend 30secs-2mins per leg
▶️ Keep your core engaged, don’t let your lower back over arch
▶️ Take deep slow controlled breaths, this will allow the nervous system to send signals to relax the muscle

This is only a single piece of the puzzle and will only provide short term relief. Take advantage of the temporary increased range of motion by dynamically stretching your quads, after this perform glute activation and strengthening exercises. Completing these steps consistently overtime will provide long term relief.

ONLY 1 WEEK TO GO! With these challenges being run twice a year, I’ve had at least 1 client club champion per challenge since 2014. Just under 50% of the names listed on the club leaderboard of champions were clients coached by me. The results of my clients speak for themselves, receive coaching from the “trainer of champions” NOW!

Repost:

It’s that time again, the Goodlife Fitter Faster Stronger 12 Week Challenge is back starting on February 10th! (Don’t know what that is? Go through my posts in December.)

If your looking to get back into training after taking a bit of a break or tired of your boring old training regime, if you’re wanting to increase your fitness levels build more strength and drop body fat, if you want to challenge yourself and test your limits, then this is for you!

On the Goodlife Taylors Lakes plaque leaderboard of club champions across the years since late 2013, out of the 35 names listed 15 of those names were clients coached by me as well as coaching the Victoria state winner in 2016!

This isn’t just for the competitive type of person, it’s also for the person who wants to better themselves and become their best and fittest version! You don’t have to be strong and fit to join, but I guarantee you will be by the end of it!

I’m looking to coach just a few more people for this challenge so if you’re interested or want to know more information send a message through or comment on this post and I will get back to you ASAP. If you know anyone who would be interested, tag them or share this post. I hope to hear back from you!
