The 2026 Ni***es on Ripples Regatta is done and dusted, and what a great day it was. The weather was perfect and the lake was mostly calm. Races ran smoothly and there were some close finishes. The Flowers on the Water ceremony was very moving as usual. After the presentation dinner was the party with the theme of Roaring 20’s and everyone looked the part and had a ball.

Last paddle for the year and we had two boats out, a 20 and a 10 seater. Conditions were tough as we had to come back against the tide and into a head wind (as a ship berthing prevented us from going the other way!) The sweeps had to work hard and we had to paddle hard but a great time had by all

A group of us went to Melbourne to meet up and paddle with our Dam Buster buddies. The paddle was hard as the water was very choppy at times with occasional rain showers to boot! Nevertheless we had a great time both on and off the water, followed by a tasty Italian lunch. The Christmas decorations looked great at night and the Town Hall decorations projected onto it were amazing. We ate way too much, walked a lot and will go home exhausted but happy. 😃

Today we had the President and State Coaches of Dragon Boating Tasmania visit and paddle with us, where we got some guidance with paddling technique, paddler safety and avoiding injury, followed by morning tea and an informal chat. We much appreciated their input.

Today at Lake Barrington was the Derwent Storms Regatta, the first in our Statewide series, and it was a great success all round, with all Tassie clubs participating. Conditions were a bit windy but this made paddling more challenging. Our club won two bronze medals (yes, there were more than three boats in the race!) which we were pretty excited about. Next regatta is at Deloraine in December👍👍

DAA ambassador Robyn Moore entertained a wonderful gathering at Meander Valley Winery for International Women’s Day, with the support of Dragons Abreast Nth West Tasmania (Devonport) aka Ni***es on Ripples.

Member Group Coordinator Robyn reports "It was stunning weather in an equally stunning setting. We ate drank and laughed together. Meander Valley Wines is an amazing place and dining beside spectacular dahlias under laden apple trees is a real treat. Robyn Moore did a great job of promoting dragon boat paddling for breast cancer survivors, making us laugh and feel so proud she is one of us."

The other speaker Vicki Madden was very interesting in sharing her role as a writer, producer and show runner.

The event was organised by Harcourts Deloraine and we thank them for their support and hard work in organising this day. The funds raised from the event were donated to DA Devonport.

Another great regatta this weekend at the fabulous Lake Barrington. The weather was kind to us, the racing was great with some close finishes, and all participants had a ball. The evening presentation dinner (with a nautical theme) was yummy, the skits were great, especially DAM Busters Gilligans Island one - hilarious!
