West Devonport Hockey Club (WDHC) at Meercroft Park, is Devonport’s premier hockey club.

Established in 1947, WDHC is the only regional club with teams in every competition, a strong junior pathway, and a proud record of community and competitive success.

🐉 WEEKEND WRAP-UP

A big weekend for the Dragons with plenty of positives across all grades!

🌟 Our junior Dragons led the way with two outstanding performances in difficult wet conditions.

🔥 U13s produced their most complete performance of the season, defeating City Marians 7-0. With multiple goal scorers getting on the scoresheet and confidence growing every week, it was fantastic to see the team’s hard work rewarded.

🔥 U16s continued their impressive form with a 6-0 victory over City Marians, making it four wins in a row! Special mention to Angus Clark, who bagged a hat-trick in a dominant team performance.

💪 Division 2 Men pushed second-placed City Marians all the way before going down 3-2. Goals to Trent Baxter and Jackson Squire kept the Dragons in the contest right until the final whistle.

💪 Division 2 Women showed significant improvement from their previous meeting with City Marians, battling hard before falling 3-1, with Elysha Holloway finding the back of the net.

🏑 The GNL Women had a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tamar Churinga, securing a well-deserved win through a disciplined team performance.

🏑 GNL Men were unable to replicate the women’s result, going down 3-1 to Tamar Churinga despite a determined effort.

👏 Congratulations to all, but especially our junior Dragons! It’s great to see the continued growth across our junior program and the competitiveness of our senior teams!

🐉 Upcoming Games 🏑

The week is already off to a fantastic start for the Dragons, with our Div 3 Men making it two wins in a row after a convincing 3-0 victory over Smithton on Wednesday night. Backing up last week’s win over Devonport, the boys are building some serious momentum and showing what they’re capable of.

Now attention turns to the rest of our teams as another big weekend of hockey awaits.

Friday night sees our juniors take centre stage at Meercroft. The U16s will be looking to continue their winning form after a strong victory last week, while the U13s take plenty of confidence into their match after another hard-fought performance.

Saturday brings a full day of action, with our Div 2 Men and Women hosting City Marians at Meercroft. Both sides will be keen to put together strong performances in front of the home crowd.

Meanwhile, our GNL Men and Women hit the road to Launceston to take on Tamar Churinga. The GNL Women will be eager to respond after last week’s heartbreaking loss on the buzzer, while the GNL Men will be looking to continue building throughout the season.

🐉 State Team Honours for Two Dragons! 🏑

West Devonport Hockey Club is proud to celebrate the recent selection of two of our GNL Women’s players in Tasmanian representative teams!

🌟 Sophie Hargreaves has been selected in the Tasmanian Under 15 Girls State Team and will represent the state in Melbourne next month. Sophie’s rapid development, commitment to her hockey, and willingness to challenge herself at every opportunity continue to shine through. We can’t wait to see her take the field in green, red and gold!

🌟 Sarah (Sam) Gray has been selected in the Tasmanian Women’s Masters Over 45 State Team, travelling to Adelaide in September. A proud Dragon with a genuine passion for the game, Sam has once again earned the honour of representing Tasmania on the national stage.

Having players representing Tasmania at both junior and masters level is a fantastic achievement for our club and highlights the strength of our hockey pathway - from developing young players through to lifelong involvement in the game.

Congratulations Sophie and Sam! Your WDHC family are incredibly proud and will be cheering you both on as you represent Tasmania, and WDHC, at Nationals. ❤️💚

🏑 Upcoming Games – Round Preview 🏑

After a bye weekend, our Dragons are ready to regroup and get back to work!

This week kicks off with our Div 3 Men under lights on Wednesday night before a big weekend of hockey across all grades. Our juniors return to action on Friday night, while Saturday sees our GNL sides and Div 2 Men looking to make the most of home ground advantage at Meercroft. The Div 2 Women round out the weekend on Sunday.

Get along to a game, cheer on the Dragons, and let’s fill the sidelines with plenty of red and green support! 🐉❤️💚

The June Long Weekend saw some of our young Dragons representing the North West at the U14 State Championships and U12 Invitational Tournament, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts! 🐉

The U14 Championships provided a fantastic opportunity for our players to test themselves against some of the best junior hockey talent from across Tasmania. For several of our Dragons, it was their first experience of representative hockey, making the achievement even more special.

🏑 THIS WEEK FOR THE DRAGONS 🐉

Another big week ahead for WDHC, with Dragons teams spread across Meercroft and McKenna Park 💚❤️

But before we look ahead… we’re still celebrating a pretty special club moment.

Last night, Tander made his senior men’s debut for our Div 3 Men — just a year after first picking up a hockey stick filling in for our U13s 👏

Even more special? He got to share the field with his Dad, Zack King - WDHC GNL player and Men’s coach… and for one game, a goalkeeper who stepped out onto the field to line up alongside his son ❤️🐉💚

That’s what makes WDHC special - juniors progressing, families playing together, and memories being made across generations.
