⚠️ Heads up to all South Coast and South-West fishers planning to fish off the rocks on Thursday, 20 March from Cape Naturaliste to Israelite Bay.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a heads up for possible dangerous fishing conditions on Thursday. A cold front brushing the South Coast of WA will generate a significant swell tomorrow.

INFO:
- South-westerly waves with swell heights 3-4m and periods of 12-14 seconds.
- Swell heights easing below 3m late on Thursday evening.

Even though the wind looks favourable for fishing, the swell is looking very risky across this stretch of coastline, so keep the sand between your toes and avoid the rocks if you wish to fish off the land.

Keeping safe comes down to better decision-making from improved alerts, communication, and awareness. No fish is worth risking your life for. If you know anyone planning to fish in these regions during this time, make sure you share this warning with them 🙏

Few tuna and plenty of salmon still out there. Plenty, plenty!
Was the first time in a long while hitting the deep water rocks for myself with a good friend and it was a lot of fun.
Yes jackets were on and taken off briefly.
I did use a knew spin out-fit from Mapheox, which was the Fujin rod.
What a wicked rod for spinning I must say.
Light weight and strong but sensitive, I really enjoyed setting it up with the 30lb Tasline and using it. Makes working the tuna that little bit easier I reckon ha.
Doctor Hook Lures (Bullys) were the pick of the day. Slammed left right and center.
Good mate, Gov here stoked with his fish :)

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued the following warning for possible dangerous rock fishing conditions for our South-West and Mid-West coastline from Thursday, 29 February until Saturday, 2 March 🌊

Keeping safe comes down to better decision-making from improved alerts, communication and awareness. No fish is worth risking your life for. If you know of mates heading out for a fish on the rocks in these regions during this time, make sure you share this warning with them.

Remember, the beach is always a safer option than the rocks 👌🎣

Some of the proposed no fishing zones in the Government’s South Coast Marine Park plans released today are completely illogical and unjustifiable.

Proposing no fishing zones in front of caravan parks, boat ramps and along several popular beaches shows Perth-based marine park planners are out of touch with the south coast community.

Recfishwest stands firmly for sustainability, however, we cannot support the marine parks in their current form.

None of the evidence we have seen supports the need to implement no fishing zones over the top of places where people have fished for generations, and they simply cannot be justified.

We ask the Government to seriously rethink several zones and join us at the table to deliver a truly positive outcome for fishers, the environment and our future.

These plans are now open for public comment until 16th June, and Recfishwest encourages all fishers with an interest in this coast to study the details and engage in the consultation process.

Early morning out, targeting the sweet King George Whiting. As the timing was perfect at the low tide, so started out on the hunt for one of their favourite food, Marine worms, before a couple hours fishing.
