🥋🌟 FINLEY GRADING WEEK! 🌟🥋

What a fantastic way to finish another term of training in Finley!

A massive well done to all of our students who completed their in-class gradings this week. 👏 From our younger students finding their confidence on the mats, through to our older students continuing to sharpen their technique, it was great to see how much everyone has developed throughout the term.

Gradings are a chance to put everything together — listening, focus, technique, effort and the confidence to perform when it counts. We saw plenty of all of that this week! 💪🥋

A big thank you to our Finley families for continuing to support the program each week, and to our instructors who put so much time into helping every student improve. 🙌

For some of our students, the work isn’t finished just yet! This Sunday, they’ll make the trip to Deniliquin to attempt their next full belt grading. 🟢🔵🟤⚫

Good luck to everyone grading this weekend — trust your training, give it everything you’ve got and enjoy the challenge!

🥋🌟 TERM 3 GRADING — DENI NORTH BEFORE THE BELL 🌟🥋

Another fantastic term wrapped up for our Deniliquin North Public School Before the Bell Karate students, with the group completing their Term 3 grading this morning! 👏🎉

This term, our Thursday mornings have been about much more than developing karate skills. Alongside their physical training, we’ve introduced the students to the Seven Virtues of Bushido — the traditional values associated with the way of the warrior. 🥋

Each week, we’ve taken time during class to focus on one of these values:

🥋 Integrity — doing what is right
💪 Courage — being brave when something is difficult
❤️ Compassion — caring for and helping others
🤝 Respect — treating others well
🗣️ Honesty — being truthful and genuine
⭐ Honour — taking pride in your actions and choices
🎯 Loyalty — standing by your commitments and the people who rely on you

Most importantly, we’ve talked about what these ideas actually mean away from karate. How can we show courage at school? What does respect look like at home? How do we demonstrate honesty when we’ve made a mistake? How can we show compassion when someone else is having a difficult day?

These short discussions have become an important part of our classes, helping the students understand that the lessons we learn through martial arts can carry into the classroom, playground, home and everyday life.

Of course, there has still been plenty of karate! 👊🥋 The students have continued building their technique and it has been great to see how much they have progressed over another term.

A massive congratulations to everyone who graded this morning. You should all be very proud of what you’ve achieved! 👏💛💙

🥋🎉 DENILIQUIN GRADING NIGHT! 🎉🥋

What a fantastic night on the mats! 👏🔥

A huge congratulations to all of our Deniliquin students who completed their in-class gradings tonight! 🥋⭐

Our 7–12 year old students were super focused tonight, and it was great to see them step up and show how far they’ve come. 💪 Part of tonight’s focus was on developing sharper, stronger technique, but also learning how to stay composed when faced with a hard blow or serious confrontation, not freezing, becoming shocked or being caught off guard, but keeping their focus and responding appropriately under pressure. 👊🛡️🥋

We also had some of our Peewees achieve their next level tonight! 🌟 At this age, every little milestone counts, listening, coordination, confidence and simply having the courage to get out there and give it a go. 🙌😊

Thank you to our instructors and families for continuing to support our students each week. ❤️🥋

Good luck to our Deniliquin, Deniliquin North and Finley students heading to our State Grading Day this Sunday to attempt their next full belt grades! 🥋🏆

🥋 HIGHER LEVEL TRAINING 🥋

A major focus of Shihan Andrew’s visit this week was working with our senior students and going deeper than simply remembering movements, combinations and kata.

At the higher levels of Karate, it becomes increasingly important to understand the intent behind what we train — why a movement is performed a certain way, what it represents, and how the principles within a kata can be applied.

Our senior students spent time working through three important Goju kata — Saifa, Sanseru and Seisan — breaking down their movements, applications and the different concepts each kata is designed to develop.

🥋 Saifa — often translated around the idea of “smashing and tearing.” It develops close-range techniques, changes in direction, breaking an opponent’s structure and generating power when there isn’t room for large movements.

🥋 Sanseru — meaning “36.” A more advanced kata that develops powerful combinations, angles, stability and the ability to attack and defend while changing position and distance.

🥋 Seisan — meaning “13.” One of the oldest kata found across Okinawan Karate traditions, with a strong emphasis on close-range fighting, powerful technique, body mechanics, breathing and maintaining control under pressure.

A fantastic session with Shihan Andrew and some really valuable knowledge for our Black Belts to continue working on. 🥋

🥋 WHAT A GREAT COUPLE OF DAYS OF TRAINING! 🥋

A huge thank you to Shihan Andrew for making the trip from Melbourne to visit our Finley and Deniliquin dojos this week!

It was fantastic to welcome Andrew back to where his own martial arts journey began more than 20 years ago, now returning as one of All Stars Martial Arts’ Head Instructors in Melbourne.

Across Thursday and Friday, Shihan Andrew worked with students of all ages and ranks — from our youngest students in Finley, through our Karate and Thai Boxing sessions in Deniliquin, to our Brown Belt assessments and Black Belt CSTD & Melbourne grading preparation.

The energy across the sessions was fantastic. Students received plenty of individual feedback on their technique, stances, combinations and grading preparation, along with some new ideas to take back into their regular training.

It was especially great to see so many students take advantage of the opportunity and put themselves outside their normal training routine. These special sessions are about much more than preparing for the next tip or belt — they give our students the opportunity to learn from different senior instructors and continue developing their martial arts knowledge.

A big thank you also to all of our students and families who attended and supported the event. 👏

And of course, thank you Shihan Andrew for stepping in at short notice, making the trip and sharing your knowledge and experience with our students.🥋👊

We are very lucky, however, to have Shihan Andrew Zrajko making the trip from Melbourne to host the sessions! 👊🥋

Shihan Andrew is a Head Instructor with All Stars Martial Arts in Melbourne, overseeing programs at East Bentleigh, Pakenham and several Melbourne schools. Andrew actually began his martial arts journey in Deniliquin before moving to Melbourne and joining the All Stars HQ team.

His qualifications include:

🥋 4th Dan Black Belt — Karate
🥊 2nd Degree Kru — Muay Thai Boran Kickboxing
🥋 Blue Belt — Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

This is one of the most valuable training opportunities of the year — a chance for our students to train directly with Kancho Rod, receive feedback on their progress and prepare for upcoming gradings.

🥋 Great to have Sensei Kaili back in the dojo last week!

Kaili popped in for some training while back home on a break from Uni and it was fantastic to have her back on the mats with everyone. 🙌

Club patches can now be purchased online. Patches will be distributed during class, however, arranging to have them sewn onto your gi is the responsibility of the student/family.
