Bunbury Locks in Track Curator!

The Bunbury Speedway may have a late start to the season, but they are getting in early when it comes to locking in some pivotal pieces to make the shortened season a success.

Today, General Manager Brad Blake is pleased to announce that Jamie Oldfield will be coming on board to lead the track curation team in 2026.

Everyone knows Oldfield’s accomplishments in racing, but few would know about the work he does behind the scenes at his home track, Ellenbrook Speedway.

Over the last three years, Oldfield has been the lead man on the Ellenbrook track, which has seen divisions ranging from Junior Sedans to the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series achieve success.

This season, with the help of Oldfield and the new clay that is soon to be laid, we hope to see the start of the Bunbury of old when it comes to excitement on the track from all divisions.

There are still plenty more announcements to be made before we open the gates on January 3, so keep your eyes peeled for more happenings around the Bunbury Speedway.

NEW SURFACE FOUND, CLUB PUSHING FORWARD FOR JANUARY START

The Bunbury Car Club and the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway have been working hard over the last 12 months to try to make the overall experience of the venue continue to elevate each time you walk in.

Over the last decade at the Bunbury Speedway, an underlying aspect of the race track has consistently left drivers and teams questioning their participation at the South West track—the surface itself.

Today, the Bunbury Car Club is proud to announce that they have completed testing of a clay deposit for the track refurbishment, and we’re pleased to confirm it’s suitable.

As our winters continue to get longer, once the ground is dry enough to accommodate machinery on site, we’ll begin work immediately.

The track refurbishment is expected to be completed, allowing the Bunbury Car Club to host practice nights and ensuring everything is ready for the public's return to the venue on January 3 for the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series USA vs WA Sprintcar Speedweek and Limited Sprintcars Davis Family Derby.

ANOTHER HALL OF FAMER FOR BUNBURY!

Congratulations to Greg Freeman who will be inducted into the Speedway Sedans Western Australia Hall of Fame!

2025 SSWA Hall of Fame Inductee – Greg Freeman

Hot on the heels of the first 2025 announcement, Speedway Sedans Western Australia is pleased tonight to announce the second inductee into the 2025 class of the SSWA Hall of Fame, Greg Freeman!

During the late 1980’s, Bunbury driver Freeman began his racing career originally campaigning a Holden Torana before stepping into the very potent Mitsubishi Sigma where he qu**ky built a name for himself.

Despite the class not racing regularly at Claremont, Freeman still scored 13 feature wins at the venue not to mention other feature wins all around the State, including his first State Title podium finish at Port Hedland in the 1987/88 season.

Freeman along with local engine builder Brian Moyle and another Bunbury driver Phil Rose formed the revered FRM Racing and with meticulous preparation and brilliant race craft, Freeman would go on to win his first State Title in 1991/92 at Bunbury, then went on a tear to grab four wins in a row from the 1995/96 season through to 1998/99 at three venues, and one of which was held as part of a series.

He would grab yet another podium a couple of years later, for a total of seven podiums in fourteen years. Freeman would also finish on the podium in a National Title: third at Albany in 1999/2000, giving him an incredible impressive resume.

Greg Freeman is the second name to be announced as part of the 2025 SSWA Hall of Fame class, and will officially be inducted alongside Ben Ludlow on Saturday the 9th of August, 2025, so to be part of the celebrations, make sure you purchase your tickets at https://www.trybooking.com/DCZKN

WITH GRATITUDE AND LOVE - NOLA WHITEHEAD

The Bunbury Car Club and the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway are deeply saddened by the passing of our cherished Life Member, Nola Whitehead.

Nola was the heart and soul of our venue and club - always there, quietly supporting, guiding and ensuring things ran smoothly. Her list of roles at the Speedway is impossible to capture fully, because her contribution was simple and profound: she was always there when you needed her.

From being the first warm smile at the gate to the last to say goodbye at the end of a long night, Nola’s dedication to the Bunbury Speedway and its future never wavered. Her passion for the track was unmistakable—you only had to see her proudly driving her Mitsubishi adorned with “Krikke Boys Shootout” logos plastered everywhere to know how much it meant to her.

In 2023, Nola played a pivotal role in reuniting our Speedway family to celebrate 50 remarkable years—a beautiful Sunday afternoon we will always hold dear. That day became even more special as she watched with pride while two of her most treasured friends, Ron and John Krikke, were honoured with Life Memberships.

Nola, there are no words that can truly capture how much we will miss you. Thank you for your unwavering dedication, your warmth, your kindness, and those heartfelt chats - some of us were lucky enough to share more of them than others. You were our sounding board, our strength, and the one we turned to for comfort and guidance. But most of all, thank you – for simply being you.

To Nola’s family, friends, and loved ones, our hearts are with you during this difficult time.
