The welcome here in Brazil was something else. Something as simple as highly experienced competitors shaking your hand on the warm-up mats and again in the bullpen set the tone straight away. Respect at the highest level.

Today I competed at the Brasileiro Championships. 10 in the division. I came away with 3rd, my first major podium as a black belt. As expected, the level across the division was high.

I always tell our students — it’s just another comp, one fight at a time.
I’ll admit… this one felt a little different. Even after the majors over the last couple of years, I felt it walking in. Luckily, the moment the match started, it all disappeared.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If you ever get the opportunity to do this, take it.
