Day two of Barra Nats and the Daly had other ideas. šŸŒ«ļø

Fog so thick you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face, and a river dropping fast enough to turn familiar water into a minefield overnight. The lines and tracks we’d run safely for four days? Not safe anymore. That’s the Daly. She keeps you honest.

We did damage. A prop in the dark, which sounds minor until you’re sitting in a boat that isn’t moving, the fog isn’t lifting, and contemplating whacking up on a sand back to change a prop 🐊🫣. A huge thank you to Trevor from NT FISH & 4x4 who got his hands dirty, and Bec, Barra Nationals coordinator helping alongside us in the dark, got us back on the water. We wouldn’t have made it out without them.

We weren’t the only ones with a tough morning. Two experienced teams came off second best, with serious boat damage, both boats almost sinking. Watching this community pull together in that moment was something. These are people who know this river, know their gear, and it still happened. A big reminder that the water doesn’t care how many times you’ve done it before.

If you can’t see, go slow. Full stop.

We got the prop changed, got moving, and got fish on the board. I’m beyond grateful for the expertise and support crew behind the Barra Nats… keeping us safe on the water.

Better late than never, but day one of Barra Nationals deserves its own moment. šŸŽ£

I won't lie, I had been quietly willing those fish to show up all morning. As Skipper you out your all in to your team, tell yourself you're calm, but you're absolutely not calm. There's a lot riding on the day going well, and not just for the scoreboard.

Getting women onto the water at Barra Nats is the easy part. Watching them land their first legal barra and rip that tutu off under the Women’s Recreational Fishing League banner? That's the bit that gets me every time. That's my whole why, right there.

Knowledge shared. Experience earned. Tutus retired. Worth the wait to post. šŸ˜…

The WRFL NT team hit the Daly for our Barra Nats pre-fish day.

The river has changed dramatically after the floods this season. New dangers, new landmarks, new water to read. We’re getting our bearings.

And Trish caught her very first barra on the Daly. A comp scorer. That’s a moment none of us will forget in a hurry.

Let’s go, WRFL NT. šŸ’œ

Our Team Barracks from Murrumbidgee Outdoors Australia is very impressive!! Certainly the centrepiece at Barra Nationals!!

We showed up to Barra Nationals and somehow ended up in the most comfortable camp I’ve ever slept in.

Six women, one incredible inflatable, and zero complaints. Big thanks to Murrumbidgee Outdoors Australia for making this happen — and for supporting Women’s Recreational Fishing League in such a practical, generous way.

Now let’s catch some Barra!!

The hardest kind of exclusion to talk about is the kind with no incident to point to.

Have you ever felt like you didn't quite belong somewhere, without being able to explain why?

I knew how to fish. I had grown up on the water, But I kept hitting a wall I couldn't understand. The problem was never me. It was the environment I was trying to fit into.

I’m so excited to have Murrumbidgee Outdoors Australia backing us leading in to Barra Nationals. Only a few more days to go before we’re setting up our home at Banyan Farm.
