Day two of Barra Nats and the Daly had other ideas. š«ļø
Fog so thick you couldnāt see your hand in front of your face, and a river dropping fast enough to turn familiar water into a minefield overnight. The lines and tracks weād run safely for four days? Not safe anymore. Thatās the Daly. She keeps you honest.
We did damage. A prop in the dark, which sounds minor until youāre sitting in a boat that isnāt moving, the fog isnāt lifting, and contemplating whacking up on a sand back to change a prop šš«£. A huge thank you to Trevor from NT FISH & 4x4 who got his hands dirty, and Bec, Barra Nationals coordinator helping alongside us in the dark, got us back on the water. We wouldnāt have made it out without them.
We werenāt the only ones with a tough morning. Two experienced teams came off second best, with serious boat damage, both boats almost sinking. Watching this community pull together in that moment was something. These are people who know this river, know their gear, and it still happened. A big reminder that the water doesnāt care how many times youāve done it before.
If you canāt see, go slow. Full stop.
We got the prop changed, got moving, and got fish on the board. Iām beyond grateful for the expertise and support crew behind the Barra Nats⦠keeping us safe on the water.
