Inaugurated in the 1959/1960 season, the Darlington Social Cricket Club plays some 22 games per season on the picturesque 'village green' - Darlington Oval - against teams from other social clubs as well as company teams and sporting clubs. The typical Sunday afternoon game see team gather at the oval for 11:30 for a 11:45 start. Matches consist of each side bowling 40 x 6 ball overs. The first ba

ll each batsman faces is a "free ball" and he cannot be dismissed apart from being run out. Bowlers are restricted to a maximum of five overs each, in fact in most cases everyone bowls 4 overs each -hence everybody participates. The Club has approximately 30 playing members and some 20 social members plus their families. Each player participates in about 8 to 10 games each year, and with some members being over 50, it takes some a week or so to recover. At around 2:30pm each match day (or at the completion of the first innings) an institution of the DSCC takes place – the afternoon tea. It is a time-honoured tradition that following each match a barbecue is held at The Darlington Pavilion or one of the DSCC member’s homes. The highs and lows of the game are relived. Fines are an integral part of the proceedings, with dropped catches and magic moments featuring heavily. Those playing in the match are expected to attend the barbecue and, as with all DSCC function, this includes families! But the barbecue isn’t limited to players on the day; all DSCC members are encouraged to attend each and post match gatherings and other social occasions. The DSCC is a unique and wonderful social group that thrives on the participation of its families, the more the merrier!

At DSCC we are a family friendly club and only ever sledge our team mates. Fine of the week (and possibly year) goes to Nigel Durkin here for appealing for an LBW against his batting partner when nobody else, including the bowler showed any interest!

A massive thanks to Quirky and the RNR Mob as well as Glen Forrest Cricket Club for hosting us on Friday night, we had a fantastic time 😊🙌🏏 🌃

Congratulations to Cambell and Kaleb Giles flying the flag for 3 generations of DSCC Giles'! Looking at those stumps, let's get down to Commercial Bar + Kitchen to celebrate!

This year's annual tennis challenge didn't disappoint, with huge turnouts from DSCC and DTC members making for a great night. A big thank you to Lee and Alex from the Tennis Club for making the evening possible.

Great to welcome the Nedlands Rugby Club boys back to Darlington Oval yesterday. Despite the scorching temperatures it was another awesome game of cricket in a fixture that's been going for over 30 years.

It was great to welcome Helena College back to Darlington Oval today. The wet weather proved no obstacle as the teams managed a couple of closely-fought shortened games. A big thanks to the Rickard family putting on afternoon tea, and for the burger night hosted by Wayne and Ivana Williams, complete with a side of delicious goulash!

So lightning can strike twice...
The Carlton boys made it two wins in a week, registering a huge win against DSCC. Featuring a blend of young athletes and battle hardened bu****it artists, the Baggers bludgeoned their way to 280. In reply, DSCC never really got going with the bat in the face of some frugal bowling.
The Carlton Blues theme, played at least 200 times, will be well and truly stuck in the heads of many a Darlington player this week...thanks Cam!
Off the field we enjoyed an afternoon tea fit for a king, thanks to a joint effort from Chris Cork, Nigel Harding and Darren Murphy, with the evening capped by some delicious burgers courtesy of traitors in-chief Craig and Beazo.
Next up...the Test Match.

This Sunday sees the Blue Baggers, featuring numerous DSCC traitors, grace Darlington Oval. When it comes to on-field and off-field hilarity they're certainly the team that never lets you down!
After their footy team's heroics against Richmond, they'll have a spring in their step. Can they go one better and defeat the might of the DSCC, or like their AFL heroes, will they promise much and deliver little.
Looking forward to a great day.

A cracking afternoon on Sunday, with the Tuart Hill Old Boys gracing the Darlington Oval for the first time. Captain Glenn’s full Match Report will be in members' inboxes, but here are his highlights and lowlights from the day:
- Matt Parsons catching behind the stumps turned a few opposition heads. Matt using one hand to scoop up inside and outside edges with ease.
- Ben Harvey’s obvious excitement as Steve Durkin went for 22 off the first 4 balls of his first over..but alas the carnage stopped and Ben is still odds on for this year’s bleeding ball
- The clean hitting of Virat for Tuart Hill nearly taking out a car….the aptly named Virat showed how average we are against good cricketers!!!
- The unmowed outfield turned many 4’s into ones and 2’s. Duncan Bell was so convinced one was going for 4 he ended up walking 2. The oval is at least recovering and looks mostly green.
- Nigel Durkin expecting his fielders to have the same superhero powers of the family weekend and melting down when he realised we were back to our unathletic "has been" selves.
- Geoff Barker donating a cold left over carton from his 70th birthday do….Happy Birthday Geoff and it was very much appreciated by all.
- Wayne “confidence crisis” Williams first outing as Fines Master was notably better than his catching...he even had the courage to include his better half Evana in his list of victims.
- Ben Devine’s BBQ shirt was next level!
- John and Sam Taylor’s burger night efforts were appreciated by all and capped off a terrific day, which will hopefully cement this one as a regular fixture.
